What this question tests
Tests prioritization for vendor and integration decisions under real commercial constraints like pricing, throughput, and roadmap risk.
How to approach it
- Clarify what customers are actually asking for, since a request for a specific provider often masks a deeper need like lower latency or cost.
- Score each candidate against weighted criteria: customer demand breadth, margin impact, throughput and reliability under Glean's traffic, and roadmap stability.
- Weight enterprise commitments over one off requests, since a model promised to two large accounts is more urgent than a casual ask.
- Pressure test reliability with real data, for example a provider's public uptime history, not marketing claims.
- Sequence integrations so the highest demand, lowest risk model ships first, and flag providers whose roadmap instability makes them a poor long term bet.
What a strong answer includes
- Names concrete weighting, for example forty percent demand, thirty percent margin, twenty percent reliability, ten percent roadmap risk, not a vague list.
- Distinguishes revenue at risk from nice to have requests, prioritizing a model three accounts made a renewal condition over a casual ask.
- Brings in real reliability data, like a provider's published uptime or existing complaints, instead of assuming all providers are equal.
- Treats the decision as reversible, proposing a lightweight integration first and a deeper one only once demand is proven.
Common mistakes
- Prioritizing purely by request count without weighting account size or revenue at risk.
- Ignoring provider roadmap instability, which can strand an integration after a later repricing or deprecation.
Likely follow-up questions
- How would you handle a provider that is cheap now but has an unstable roadmap?
- What would make you deprioritize a model despite strong customer demand?
