Strategy question
You have capacity for only one major investment this quarter: improve model evaluation quality, shorten deployment time into accredited environments, or build a new workflow feature requested by a major allied customer. What this question tests
Prioritization judgment across three legitimately valuable investments with different time horizons and stakeholders.
How to approach it
- Define what success looks like for each option: eval quality, fewer false claims about model reliability, deployment time, faster accreditation cycles unlocking more customers, and the workflow feature, one customer's specific need.
- Assess urgency and reversibility: a workflow feature for one customer is narrow and reversible, deployment time compounds across every future customer, eval quality underpins trust in everything else.
- Weigh risk of inaction: if eval quality is weak, every other investment risks shipping something unreliable, which argues for prioritizing it first.
- Check for dependencies: faster accreditation might be blocked without eval improvements that regulators require, linking the two.
- Make the call, and state the specific signal that would change it, for example if the major ally customer's contract is at risk without the feature.
- Describe how you would communicate the deprioritized options to their stakeholders to keep them bought in.
What a strong answer includes
- Picks one option and defends it with a clear criterion, foundational risk, compounding leverage, or contract urgency, rather than trying to do a bit of all three.
- Identifies a dependency between options, for example accreditation speed depending on eval credibility, showing systems thinking.
- Names a concrete signal that would flip the decision, such as a customer churn risk.
- Addresses how to keep the deprioritized stakeholders engaged, showing organizational awareness.
Common mistakes
- Trying to split resources three ways instead of committing to one priority.
- Ignoring the dependency between eval quality and deployment speed.
Likely follow-up questions
- What would you tell the major ally customer if you deprioritized their feature?

- Two near-term customer commitments pull the platform in different directions: one requires stronger auth and secure-by-default deployment into a constrained environment, while another needs better agent runtime primitives to improve forward-deployed team velocity. Engineering capacity is fixed and both asks are only partially specified. How would you sequence the work, what framework would you use to make the call, and how would you explain that decision differently to platform engineers, FD PMs, and executives?Scale AI · Strategy · Hard
