Strategy question
Anthropic wants its internal platform, not Slack or Google Workspace, to become the default place where researchers, engineers, GTM, and G&A coordinate work with Claude. As the first PM with one dedicated engineering team, how would you define the product vision, choose the first 3-6 months of bets, and justify what you would not build yet?

What this question tests
Tests ability to define a product vision and sequenced bets for an internal platform competing against deeply entrenched habits like Slack and Google Workspace.
How to approach it
- Clarify what default place means, for example where high stakes decisions get made and tracked, not just where casual chat happens.
- Pick a vision anchored in Claude's differentiation, a platform where Claude actively participates in and surfaces context from work, not just hosts it.
- Choose the first bets around the highest friction, highest frequency workflows, for example replacing a specific recurring cross functional status process.
- Justify explicit non bets, such as not rebuilding generic chat or docs that Slack and Workspace already do well, avoiding feature parity traps.
- Define what evidence in two quarters would justify continued investment, such as a measurable share of a workflow migrating off Slack.
What a strong answer includes
- Anchors the vision in Claude's unique capability, active participation and synthesis, rather than proposing a feature for feature Slack replacement.
- Picks a narrow first wedge workflow instead of trying to win general purpose chat and docs on day one with one engineering team.
- States explicit non bets clearly, for example deprioritizing generic messaging, which focuses limited engineering capacity on defensible differentiation.
- Defines a concrete adoption metric for a specific workflow as the checkpoint for whether the bet is working, not vague platform popularity.
Common mistakes
- Trying to compete broadly with Slack and Google Workspace instead of picking one high friction workflow to win first.
- Vague vision statements without a concrete first bet an under resourced team of one can actually ship in months.
Likely follow-up questions
- Which specific workflow would you pick as the first wedge and why?
- How would you know within two quarters if this vision was working?
