What this question tests
Metrics prioritization for a scheduling tool: can you rank metrics by what actually indicates the product solves the real problem, reducing scheduling friction.
How to approach it
- State the core goal: reduce the time and back and forth needed to schedule a meeting that works for everyone involved.
- Set the primary metric as time from meeting creation to confirmed time, since it directly reflects the friction the app removes.
- Add a second tier metric, number of back and forth reschedules per meeting, since that also signals friction.
- Add adoption metrics, meetings scheduled per active user per week, to track whether the tool becomes a habit.
- Add a guardrail, no show or cancellation rate, since a scheduling tool that leads to more missed meetings has failed its purpose.
- Rank them explicitly, time to confirm first, then reschedule count, then adoption, with no shows as a guardrail throughout.
What a strong answer includes
- Prioritizes friction reduction metrics ahead of raw usage volume, correctly identifying the core value proposition.
- Includes a guardrail, no show rate, that a less careful answer would miss entirely.
- Gives an explicit ranking rather than a flat list of equally weighted metrics.
Common mistakes
- Leading with usage volume metrics like meetings scheduled per user without first measuring whether scheduling got faster.
- No guardrail against the tool inadvertently increasing missed meetings.
Likely follow-up questions
- How would you measure friction for group meetings with many participants versus one on one?
- Which metric would you sacrifice if you could only track two?
