What this question tests

Creative but grounded product thinking, since a vending machine constrains form factor, price point, and impulse-purchase behavior.

How to approach it

  1. Users: people making quick, unplanned purchases in high-traffic, low-dwell-time locations like offices, gyms, or transit stations.
  2. Constraint: the product must be compact, shelf-stable or otherwise dispensable without refrigeration complexity, and priced for impulse buying.
  3. Identify an underserved need in that context, for example basic wellness or convenience items like charging cables, hygiene products, or single-use tech accessories.
  4. Propose a specific product, for example a phone charging cable and adapter kit, solving a common, immediate frustration in transit hubs and offices.
  5. Weigh tradeoffs: SKU variety versus machine complexity, and price point that still feels impulse-buy reasonable.
  6. Success metric: sales velocity per machine per day, and repeat purchase rate at the same location.
