Strategy question

Everyone is working from home since Covid. Schools are also online. The students have been provided devices (phones, tablets etc), but not all students have Wifi. Google wants to give free Wifi to these kids. In the area of your choice (give reason why), how many towers and boxes are needed?

What this question tests

Estimation skill combined with structuring an ambiguous social good initiative into a concrete numeric plan.

Pick a specific area and justify it, e.g. a mid-size US school district, because population and density data are easier to reason about than a whole state.
State the target population, e.g. number of school age children without home Wifi in that district, as an assumption.
Estimate coverage needs, households per square mile, to figure out how many towers are needed for a given radius each.
Estimate boxes needed as one receiver box per household lacking Wifi, adjusting for multi child households sharing one box.
Do the math: population without Wifi divided by average household size gives households, divided by tower coverage radius gives tower count.
State what you would validate with real data before finalizing, such as actual district Wifi penetration surveys.

Picks a real, bounded area, e.g. a district of 50,000 households, instead of vague hand waving about a big area.
Shows the full estimation chain: population, percent without Wifi, households, coverage radius, towers, and boxes, each step justified.
Clearly labels every number as an assumption, e.g. assuming 5 percent lack home Wifi and one tower covers a 2 mile radius.
Arrives at a specific tower and box count instead of stopping at a qualitative answer.

Skipping the area selection reasoning and jumping straight into numbers.
Not distinguishing towers, which provide coverage, from boxes, which are per household receivers.
Giving a number with no shown work.
