What this question tests
An open-ended strategy/creativity prompt testing how a candidate scopes an ambiguous, resource-unconstrained question into a concrete, defensible product bet.
How to approach it
- Clarify the constraint being removed: unlimited bandwidth means no data-cap or latency limits, but compute, storage, and device hardware are still real constraints.
- State a guiding principle for the answer: focus on what becomes newly possible, not just 'more' of what exists today (faster video isn't a new idea).
- Propose a specific direction: real-time, always-on ambient video presence, e.g., persistent life-like video calling/telepresence devices in every room, since today's bandwidth and compression limits make that impractical at scale.
- Ground it in Google's strengths: pairs with Google's cloud infrastructure, Meet, and AI (real-time translation, background removal) to build a telepresence product.
- Identify the target user: distributed families and remote-first companies wanting more presence than video calls currently allow.
- Define success: adoption and daily active usage of the telepresence product, and stated user preference over existing video calling.
What a strong answer includes
- Grounds an abstract prompt in one concrete, buildable product idea instead of listing many vague possibilities.
- Explains specifically why unlimited bandwidth (not compute or storage) is the unlocking constraint for the chosen idea.
- Connects the idea to Google's actual assets (cloud infra, Meet, AI models) rather than a generic idea unrelated to the company.
- Names a real target user and a measurable adoption goal instead of ending on pure speculation.
Common mistakes
- Giving an unfocused list of many ideas with no depth on any single one.
- Confusing bandwidth with other constraints (compute, storage) and not being precise about what's actually unlocked.
- No connection back to the company asking the question, making the answer generic.
Likely follow-up questions
- Why this idea over something like fully immersive AR/VR streaming?
- What would still limit adoption even with unlimited bandwidth?
- How would you validate demand before building this?
