What this question tests

Market sizing and site selection reasoning covering demand, competition, and unit economics for a specific location.

How to approach it

  1. Define the decision criteria, enough population density and spending power nearby, and limited existing competition.
  2. Estimate demand, population within a walkable or drivable radius and their grocery spend, using local demographic data.
  3. Assess competition, the number and quality of existing grocery stores in that radius and their apparent share.
  4. Assess site specific factors, foot traffic, parking, rent cost, and transit access.
  5. Combine into a go or no go recommendation comparing estimated revenue potential against rent and operating cost.
