What this question tests
Prioritization judgment for AI investment across verticals, weighing regulation, data availability and risk.
How to approach it
- Clarify the company's existing assets and distribution in each vertical.
- Compare regulatory risk: medical carries FDA and health-data constraints, legal carries confidentiality and liability exposure.
- Compare data availability and quality for training in each vertical.
- Compare urgency and willingness to pay for an AI solution in each vertical.
- Pick one with clear reasoning, e.g. legal for faster time to market given lower regulatory barriers.
- State the tradeoff being given up by not choosing the other vertical.
What a strong answer includes
- States a clear pick, not both, with the deciding factor named (e.g. regulatory speed to market).
- Compares concrete use cases: contract review and legal research versus diagnosis support and clinical notes.
- Flags that medical has higher stakes for errors (patient harm) than legal (financial or reputational harm), affecting launch caution.
- Notes that legal documents are more publicly available than protected health records, easing data sourcing.
Common mistakes
- Picking a side without naming the tradeoff being sacrificed.
- Ignoring the regulatory and liability differences between the two verticals.
