What this question tests
Crisis response strategy: balancing damage control, legal, and business continuity under real time pressure.
How to approach it
- Assess the leak's scope immediately: how much of the series is out, which platforms it's spreading on, and how it was leaked.
- Engage legal and trust and safety to issue takedown requests on pirate sites and file sharing platforms.
- Decide on the release strategy: consider moving up the launch date to reduce the leak's head start advantage.
- Communicate with the production and marketing teams to adjust promotional messaging, acknowledging the leak without amplifying it.
- Analyze the source of the leak, whether internal, a partner, or a screener copy, and tighten controls for future releases.
- Define success as viewership on launch day versus forecast, and containment of further unauthorized spread.
What a strong answer includes
- Proposes a concrete tactical option, moving up the launch date, rather than only reactive legal takedowns.
- Separates the immediate response, containment and takedowns, from the longer term fix, tightening screener and partner controls.
- Gives an illustrative number, for example assuming a goal of keeping day one viewership within 90 percent of forecast despite the leak.
- Addresses the human element, investigating the leak's source, not just its symptoms.
Common mistakes
- Only proposing legal takedowns without considering a proactive release strategy change.
- Ignoring how the leak happened, missing the chance to prevent a repeat next time.
Likely follow-up questions
- How would you decide whether to move up the release date versus stick to the plan?
