What this question tests

Ambiguous product design skill: defining a target user and use case from scratch, then designing an interaction model without a screen.

Ask the interviewer to confirm the setting, home, office, or public space, since that drives the use case.
Pick a user and job to be done, for example a home assistant robot that helps an elderly person with daily reminders and light tasks.
List pain points: elderly users often struggle with small screens and app navigation, so voice and physical gesture are the natural interface.
Design the interaction model: voice as primary input and output, plus simple light and sound cues for status such as listening, busy, or error.
Address failure modes: what happens when voice recognition fails or the room is noisy, using a physical button as fallback.
Define success as reduction in missed medication reminders and user reported ease of use.

Commits to one clear persona (assumption: aging in place, roughly age 70 plus) instead of a vague general purpose robot.
Uses layered feedback, light color for status plus voice confirmation, so the interface degrades gracefully if one channel fails.
Explicitly excludes any implicit screen, like a phone companion app, to honor the no-screen constraint fully.

Secretly relying on a companion phone app, which defeats the point of a screenless design.
Designing for a generic user instead of committing to a specific persona and job to be done.
