The best free product manager resume review checks your resume against the exact job description you are applying to, not against a generic checklist. AllthingsPM's JD resume review does that free once a day: paste the posting, upload your resume, and get a match score, up to 14 keywords marked present or missing, the posting's requirements marked strong, implied, weak or missing, six ATS checks, and up to six line-by-line rewrites you can accept and export as PDF or DOCX. AllthingsPM is an AI PM course and PM interview prep platform, so the same posting then becomes a scored mock interview.
Below: what a good review checks, a complete PM resume template you can copy, and a self-review checklist for when you want to do it by hand.
What does a free PM resume review against a JD check?
A useful review answers one question: would a recruiter reading this resume for this posting put you in the yes pile? Recruiters give the first screen about 7.4 seconds, according to Ladders' eye-tracking study [1][2], and 76.4% of recruiters surveyed by Jobscan say they search and rank candidates by skills from the job description [3]. So the review has to look at the resume through the posting.
Here is what each tool's free review covers, as described on each vendor's own page:
| What the free review gives you | AllthingsPM | Jobscan | Resume Worded | Teal |

Features checked 26 September 2026: AllthingsPM, Jobscan and Resume Worded on their own pages [8][9][10]; Teal's page blocked automated reading, so Teal features and prices are as reported by MakerStack (July 2026) and Rezi (March 2026) [6][7]. "Not stated" means we could not find it.
Jobscan, Resume Worded and Teal are solid general tools with large user bases. For a PM who wants a PM-specific fit check, the edits and a mock interview from the same posting in one place, AllthingsPM does more for free.
How AllthingsPM does this. Open the JD resume review, paste a posting or pick one from the jobs catalog, upload your resume, and press Analyze fit. The report shows a base match and what is available if you apply all edits, so you see how much a rewrite is worth before you do it.
How do you run a free resume review in 5 minutes?
- Pick one posting. Use the real JD for the job you will apply to. A review against "PM roles in general" tells you nothing.
- Upload your current resume. PDF or DOCX. Keep your master version; you are about to make a copy for this job.
- Read the requirement table first. Anything marked missing on a required line matters more than any keyword.
- Accept or skip each edit. Accept only edits that are true. The review uses numbers already in your resume, so if a bullet has no number, it will ask for scale instead of making one up.
- Export and send. Download the tailored resume as PDF or DOCX, then save the posting for your interview prep.

How AllthingsPM does this. The report is split into a match score, section fit (experience, skills, impact and metrics, seniority signal), keyword coverage, the requirement table, ATS checks and an application strategy of 3 to 4 bullets that says which strengths to lead with and whether to apply at all.
What should a product manager resume template include?
Here is the full template. Copy it into a plain document with one column, standard headings and no tables, which is the layout Ladders found worked best for the skim [1][2].

Rules that make the template work:
- The title line mirrors the posting. If the JD says "Product Manager, Growth", write that, not "Senior Product Lead".
- Three to four bullets for your latest role, two to three for older ones. The recruiter reads the top of page one.
- Every bullet has a number. Bock's formula: "Accomplished [X] as measured by [Y] by doing [Z]" [5].
- Skills are the posting's words. Cut anything the JD does not ask for.
- One page until about 10 years of experience. Longer is fine only if every line proves a requirement.
For worked examples by level, see product manager resume examples.
How AllthingsPM does this. The review's six ATS checks test exactly these rules: standard section headings, contact info in the body text, keywords present but not stuffed, no parse-breaking formatting, consistent dates and titles, and quantified bullets. A template that passes all six is ready for any posting.
How do you review a PM resume against a JD by hand?
If you want to do it yourself first, use this checklist with the posting printed beside your resume.
| Check | Pass when | Common fail |
|---|---|---|
| Requirements | Every required line in the JD has a bullet that proves it | Required skill appears only in the skills list |
| Top third | Your two best matches are in the first three bullets | Best match buried in an old role |
| Keywords | The JD's nouns appear in your bullets naturally | Synonyms ("onboarding uplift" vs "activation") |
| Metrics | Every bullet has a number or a concrete scale | "Responsible for", "helped with", "worked on" |
| Seniority | Scope matches the level (team size, revenue, users) | Senior role, junior-sounding bullets |
| Format | One column, standard headings, no tables or graphics | Two-column templates, icons, skill bars |
| Truth | Every title, date and number matches LinkedIn | Inflated numbers to fit the JD |
Do the requirement check first. Keyword matching is the least important of these, even though many tools lead with it; 23 of 25 recruiters told Enhancv their ATS does not auto-reject resumes, and the real filter is a human skimming a pile [4].
For the full step-by-step method with a real Anthropic posting, see how to tailor a PM resume to a job description.
How AllthingsPM does this. The requirement table does the first three rows for you: it lists the 4 to 6 highest-priority requirements, required first, and marks each strong, implied, weak or missing. The suggested edits target the weakest duty-based bullets first, the "responsible for" lines in the table above.
What do reviews most often flag on PM resumes?
These are the fixes a JD review surfaces most, and why they matter:
- Duty bullets instead of outcomes. "Owned the roadmap for checkout" says what you were assigned. "Cut checkout drop-off from X% to Y% by shipping one-page checkout", with your real numbers, says what changed.
- A missing required requirement. If the posting asks for "experience with LLM evaluation" and your resume never mentions it, no keyword trick fixes that; you need a bullet, a project, or a clear reason to apply anyway. The AllthingsPM AI PM course covers evals and the other AI PM skills postings ask for, built from 604 real PM job postings.
- The wrong seniority signal. A senior posting wants scope: team size, revenue, number of users.
- Formatting that fights the skim. Ladders found multiple columns and missing headers hurt resumes in the eye-tracking test [1][2].
- No proof of work. For AI roles especially, a link to a project helps. Browse 455 real PM portfolios for formats that work, and read the course lesson on the take-home, the presentation and the portfolio.
How AllthingsPM does this. Each edit shows the current line quoted word for word, the rewrite, a priority and one sentence on why it helps for this role. You stay in control: accept, skip, and watch the projected score move.
What should you do after the review?
A tailored resume gets the interview; the interview gets the offer. Three next steps:
- Find more matching roles. Resume Job Match finds live PM jobs that fit your resume.
- Practice for this posting. Turn the same JD into a scored JD mock interview, in text or voice, with follow-up questions.
- Prepare your stories. The interviewer will ask about the bullets you just rewrote. The question bank has 4,122 real PM questions from 260 companies, each with an answer guide.
How AllthingsPM does this. The resume review, Resume Job Match, the JD mock and the question bank share one account, so the posting you reviewed against is one click from its mock interview.
Why AllthingsPM is the better choice for a PM resume review
Most free resume checkers are general tools: they compare words in your resume to words in the posting and give you a score. That is useful, and Jobscan, Resume Worded and Teal do it well for any profession, with Teal adding a strong free job tracker.
A product manager needs more than word overlap. Postings for PM roles are long lists of required and preferred qualifications, and the recruiter is checking whether each one is proved. AllthingsPM's review is built for that: it separates required from preferred, marks each requirement on your resume, weights the match score toward required qualifications, and rewrites your weakest bullets from your own words in the X, Y, Z form without inventing metrics. You export the tailored resume as PDF or DOCX in the same flow.
Then it keeps going where general tools stop. The same posting becomes a mock interview. The jobs catalog holds 116 live PM postings at 18 AI companies to review against. The AI PM course teaches the skills the missing requirements point to. And you get all of it free once a day, or unlimited for $20 a month or $120 a year.
For a PM applying to real roles, that is the verdict: use AllthingsPM for the review, the tailoring and the interview prep that follows. Start your free resume review.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best free product manager resume review?
AllthingsPM's JD resume review is the best free option for product managers because it checks your resume against the exact posting, marks each required and preferred requirement, and rewrites your weakest bullets, free once a day. General tools such as Jobscan, Resume Worded and Teal also compare a resume to a job description, but they are not built for PM postings and do not turn the posting into a mock interview.
Is the AllthingsPM resume review really free?
Yes. The free tier includes one resume review against a job description per day. Unlimited reviews come with Pro at $20 a month or $120 a year.
Does an ATS reject my resume automatically?
Usually not. In Enhancv's survey, 23 of 25 recruiters said their ATS does not auto-reject resumes for formatting, content or design; the 2 that did had set match thresholds deliberately [4]. The bigger risk is a human skimming for about 7.4 seconds [1].
Will the review invent achievements for me?
No. Suggested edits quote your exact line and rewrite it using only numbers already on your resume; where there are none, it uses a concrete scale your resume supports. Accept only edits that are true.
How long should a product manager resume be?
One page for most PMs with under about 10 years of experience. What matters more is that the top third proves the posting's first requirements, since that is what a recruiter reads first [1].
Can I review my resume against an AI PM job?
Yes. Pick any of the 116 live PM postings at 18 AI companies in the jobs catalog and run the review against it, or paste any other posting.
