What this question tests
Strategic reasoning for identifying a real capability gap and a specific, justified acquisition target category.
How to approach it
- Identify the company's current strategic priorities, AI infrastructure and models, and maintaining engagement against short form video competitors.
- Identify a real gap, strong short form video engagement tools or AI powered content creation tools that could strengthen the video product.
- Propose a target category rather than a fictional specific company, an AI video generation or editing tool that lowers the barrier for creators to make native content.
- Justify why acquisition over building in house, speed to market and acquiring existing creator relationships or technology given how fast the space moves.
- Define what success would look like, measurable lift in creator supply or watch time within a defined period post acquisition.
What a strong answer includes
- Ties the recommendation to a clearly stated current strategic priority, competing on short form video, rather than a random or trendy pick.
- Names a specific capability gap, AI assisted content creation tools for creators, and explains why acquiring is faster than building given competitive urgency.
- Defines a measurable post acquisition goal, creator supply or watch time growth within two quarters, to judge if the acquisition worked.
Common mistakes
- Naming a specific real company with no reasoning tied to the acquirer's actual strategic gaps.
- Proposing an acquisition disconnected from the company's known current priorities.
- No way defined to judge whether the acquisition succeeds afterward.
Likely follow-up questions
