Short answer: if you want a free AI product manager certification, take Pendo's "Becoming an AI-native Product Manager" course: it is free, takes about an hour and ends with a shareable badge. Product School's AI Product Management Certification costs $2,999 for 3 weeks of live classes and a graded project. But if your goal is an AI PM job rather than a badge, AllthingsPM gives you more of what interviews test than either: a free tier, then a 101-lesson AI PM course built from 604 real PM job postings plus mock interviews built from any job description, for $120 a year.

How AllthingsPM does this: the AI PM course opens with six free lessons, starting at what the AI PM job looks like now, and the free tier also gives you one JD mock interview a day. You can judge the depth before paying anything.
What is Pendo's free AI for Product Management course?
Pendo first launched an "AI for Product Management" course in November 2023, built with Mind the Product and Google Cloud. Pendo said it was "usually $149" but offered it free: six modules and about two hours of instructor-led video, with an optional exam that earned a digital badge [2]. The Credly badge criteria for that course list a 90 minute, unproctored, open-reference assessment with a 75% pass mark [3].
The course on Pendo's site today is the newer "Becoming an AI-native Product Manager" in Pendo Learning Lab [1]. What Pendo lists:
- Free, about one hour, 6 modules and 29 lessons.
- Taught by Dave Killeen, Field CPO at Pendo.
- Module titles such as "Out-hunt: scan the market, reach anything" and "Prove impact: light up the dark half of the loop", ending in a final assessment.
- Hands-on quizzes, match-pairs and fill-in-the-blank exercises, with scenario-based questions at the end.
- A verifiable, shareable badge showing the course name, Pendo Learning Lab, completion date and instructor, which you can add to LinkedIn.
Strength: it is genuinely free, short and credible, and Product Compass lists it among the few free PM courses that include a certificate [7]. Limit: it is about how a PM uses AI in daily work, not how to design, evaluate and ship an AI product, which is what AI PM interviews test.
How AllthingsPM does this: our course covers the build side Pendo does not, such as evals: defining good and making the number defensible and the AI PRD, and the knowledge graph shows how those concepts connect. Take Pendo's hour for the badge, then spend your study time where the interview is.
What does Product School's AI PM certification cost and include?
Product School's AI Product Management Certification page lists $2,999 for a single course, or membership at $333 a month (Pro) and $416 a month (Unlimited), billed annually [4]. A September 2026 Uxcel review puts those memberships at $3,999 a year for 2 live certification courses and $4,999 a year for 10, and says refunds apply only if you cancel shortly after joining and have not opened course materials [6].
What the $2,999 buys, per Product School [4]:
- 3 weeks, part-time: 6 live sessions, 12 live hours, with recorded access.
- Six modules: AI-First Product Mindset, AI-Specific PRD, Foundational Prompting for PMs, Intro to AI User Experiences, Evaluation Framework, and Comprehensive AI Product Spec.
- 1 graded final project: a full AI product spec, with instructor feedback.
- Instructors from Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, Uber and Spotify, and about 20 students per class on average.
- A "4.8" rating from "1,709+ ratings" and "20,901+ students graduated", as stated on the page.
Product School launched its first AI certification, the AIPC, in December 2023 as a three week, 15 hour live program with a portfolio project [5]. The current version is shorter on live hours (12) but keeps the cohort model.
Strength: live teaching, a cohort, a graded project and a well-known brand. Limit: $2,999 for 12 live hours is roughly $250 per live hour, and the certificate does not include interview practice or job-specific prep.
How AllthingsPM does this: our course covers the same core topics (the AI PRD, evals, AI UX, launch) across 101 self-paced lessons with 14 graded case studies, and every chapter connects to real interview questions in the question bank. For the full breakdown of Product School's tiers, see our Product School certification cost guide.
Free vs $2,999: which one should you pick?
It depends on what you need the credential to do.
- You want a line on LinkedIn this week. Pendo. It costs nothing, takes an hour and gives you a verifiable badge.
- Your employer pays and you want a live cohort. Product School is a reasonable use of a learning budget, especially if you like live classes and a deadline.
- You want an AI PM job. Neither credential is enough on its own. You need to explain evals, model tradeoffs and AI metrics under pressure, and practise that out loud.
That last group is most people searching for a free AI PM certification. In the latest 389 PM postings in the AllthingsPM corpus, read on September 22, 2026, none asked for a PM or AI course certificate [8]. Hiring managers look at what you can do, which is why we cover the question in depth in are PM certifications worth it.
How AllthingsPM does this: start with the free lessons and a free JD mock on a real posting, for example a role from our jobs catalog of live AI company PM roles. The mock asks follow-ups and scores you, so you learn which gaps to close before an interviewer finds them.
How do the curricula compare for AI PM interviews?
AI PM loops at AI companies test a fairly stable set of skills: defining quality for a probabilistic product, writing a spec with guardrails, choosing when an LLM is the wrong tool, measuring impact and cost. Here is how each option maps to them, based on each vendor's published syllabus.
| Skill interviewers probe | AllthingsPM | Pendo | Product School |
|---|---|---|---|
| Evals and defining "good" | Full chapter | Not listed | Evaluation Framework module |
| AI PRD and spec | Full chapter | Not listed | AI-Specific PRD, AI Product Spec |
| Prompting | Covered in lessons | Using AI tools day to day | Foundational Prompting module |
| AI UX | Covered in lessons | Not listed | Intro to AI User Experiences |
| Outcomes, economics and pricing | Full chapter | "Prove impact" module | Not listed as a module |
| Mock interviews | Yes, from any JD | No | No |
Product School covers more of the build skills than Pendo. AllthingsPM covers those skills too, and adds the part that turns knowledge into an offer: rehearsing the answer. Our chapter on proving an AI product paid off covers outcomes, economics and pricing, a topic neither rival lists as a full module.
How AllthingsPM does this: every lesson ties back to the demand we measured in real postings, and the question bank has pages for questions such as when you would avoid RAG and choose prompting or fine-tuning, each with an answer guide you can practise out loud.
Can you stack a free certificate with AllthingsPM?
Yes, and it is the cheapest route to both a credential and interview readiness. A four week plan:
- Week 1: take Pendo's one hour course and add the badge to LinkedIn. Start AllthingsPM's six free Foundations lessons.
- Week 2: open three AI PM postings at companies you want. Run one free JD mock a day on them and write down the follow-ups that stumped you.
- Week 3: close those gaps. If they are about evals or specs, the matching AI PM course chapters; if they are about a company, its hub in the question bank.
- Week 4: run a free resume review against the job description for your top role, then another mock to compare your score.
Total cost: $0. If the free tier helps, AllthingsPM Pro unlocks all 101 lessons and unlimited mocks for $20 a month or $120 a year. For more free options, see our list of free AI PM courses with a certificate.
How AllthingsPM does this: everything in weeks 2 to 4 runs inside one AllthingsPM account, from the jobs catalog to the mock to the resume check, so your practice stays tied to the job you want.
Why AllthingsPM is the better choice for AI PM certification seekers
Most people who search for a free AI product manager certification want proof they can do the job. A badge or certificate is one small signal. Skills you can explain in an interview are the real one. On that test AllthingsPM wins against both options:
- More depth than Pendo, for $0 to start. Pendo's hour is about working with AI tools. AllthingsPM's free lessons open a 101-lesson course on building AI products.
- The same core topics as Product School, for about 4% of the price. AI PRD, evals, AI UX and launch, with 14 graded case studies, for $120 a year against $2,999.
- Built from real demand. The syllabus comes from 604 PM job postings and is updated weekly.
- Interview practice included. Mocks from any job description, 4,122 real questions from 260 companies with answer guides, and live AI company roles, none of which either rival lists.
Pendo's badge is free, and Product School offers live instructors and a cohort, both real strengths. Take the free badge if you want it. For the skills that get you hired, our verdict is AllthingsPM. Open the AI PM course or compare plans.
Start today, free: open the first lesson of the AI PM course, then run your first JD mock on a role you actually want. No card needed.
