What this question tests

Product sense at zero to one scope: picking a target user and a defensible wedge in a crowded housing search market.

How to approach it

  1. Pick a specific segment, for example new to city renters or first time home buyers, rather than all housing seekers.
  2. Identify their sharpest pain point, such as trust in listings or affordability filtering that Zillow and Craigslist handle poorly.
  3. State the differentiated wedge, like verified listings with transparent pricing history, versus competing head on with incumbents.
  4. Describe the MVP: a narrow, high trust search and matching experience for that one segment and one city.
  5. Define a success metric, such as time to signed lease or percentage of users who find a verified match within 30 days.
