What this question tests

Whether you can turn a vague engagement goal into a specific user segment, pain point, and testable solution.

How to approach it

  1. Clarify local community: a neighborhood on Facebook Groups, Marketplace, and Events, and define engagement as posts, RSVPs, or DAU within it.
  2. Segment users into long-time residents, newcomers, and local business owners, and find whose engagement is lowest today.
  3. Surface pain points: newcomers do not know which groups exist, residents see low-relevance content, businesses struggle to reach nearby customers.
  4. Prioritize the newcomer discovery problem, since it blocks the network effect that makes local groups useful in the first place.
  5. Propose a New to Your Neighborhood flow that surfaces nearby active groups, events, and businesses based on location.
  6. Define success metrics: local group joins per new resident, week four posting rate, and RSVP to attendance ratio.
