Short answer: if you have been running PM mock interviews in ChatGPT, the purpose-built alternative is AllthingsPM. You paste a job description, and an interviewer made for product managers asks role-specific questions, follows up on what you actually said and scores you, by voice or text. No prompt to write. It sits on 4,122 real PM questions from 260 companies, each with an answer guide, and costs $120 a year with a free JD mock every day.
AllthingsPM is an AI PM course and PM interview prep platform. Below, each alternative is organised by the thing you were trying to get out of ChatGPT: an interviewer, real questions, a role-specific mock, speaking practice, a free option, human judgment, or learning. Prices checked September 29, 2026 on each vendor's own page unless noted.

Why look past ChatGPT for PM mock interviews?
ChatGPT is a capable general assistant, and plenty of guides show how to make it play an interviewer. Careerflow suggests using it to research the company, generate questions, get feedback and run mock interviews, but warns: "Do not rely solely on these interview questions generated by ChatGPT, as they are only probable and not guaranteed to be asked during the interview" [1].
MockIF, which sells its own mock tool, lists where a plain chat falls short: "No pressure simulation", "No resume/JD personalization", "No structured scoring" and "No session memory" [2]. Some of that depends on how you prompt, and ChatGPT does have a voice mode. But the pattern is familiar to anyone who has tried it:
- You write the interviewer. Every new chat needs the role, the company, the rules for follow-ups and the rubric again.
- The questions are generated, not sourced. You cannot see where a question was asked.
- The score drifts. Ask for a 1 to 10 rating in two chats and you may get two different scales.
- Nothing connects. A weak answer does not lead you to a lesson or an answer guide.
Practice itself works. Roediger and Karpicke found that retrieval practice beats rereading for long-term retention [11], which is why speaking answers out loud matters more than reading frameworks. The fix is to keep the practice and remove the setup.
How AllthingsPM does this: you open a mock interview, pick a question type or paste a job, and start answering. The interviewer, follow-ups and scoring are already there, and every session is saved with its transcript and feedback so you can compare week one with week three.
1. You wanted an interviewer: AllthingsPM mock interviews
The most common ChatGPT prompt for PM prep is some version of "act as a product manager interviewer at Company X, ask one question at a time and push back on my answer." AllthingsPM is that prompt, built as a product.
- One session, voice or text. Switch between typing and speaking inside the same mock.
- Follow-ups anchored to your answer. If you skip user segmentation, the interviewer asks about it, the way a real panel would.
- A score every time. Each mock is rated on the competencies interviewers weigh, with specific feedback on what to fix.
- A record. Transcripts and feedback are saved, so progress is visible.

Aced (formerly Exponent) also offers AI grading of mock transcripts, but only for paid members, and its peer mocks run at fixed PM slots [4]. That is a real option if you already pay for Aced.
How AllthingsPM does this: start with the free JD mock today. If you want a warm-up first, the course lesson on the product sense and execution rounds walks through what a 40 minute round looks like.
2. You wanted real questions: the AllthingsPM question bank
ChatGPT will happily invent a question that sounds like Google. The problem is you cannot tell whether Google asks it. For PM prep, the source matters: companies lean on different question types, and you want to rehearse the mix you will face.
The AllthingsPM question bank holds 4,122 real PM questions from 260 companies. Each question has its own page with what it tests, an approach guide and a button to practise it out loud. There is a hub per company, for example OpenAI PM interview questions and Google PM interview questions.
It even includes questions about ChatGPT itself, such as how would you improve ChatGPT's memory feature for power users and what metrics you would track for ChatGPT Projects. Those are good ones to rehearse if you are targeting AI companies.
Aced keeps a large community question library too [4]; it is a solid reference, but it lives behind a separate membership.
How AllthingsPM does this: pick your target company's hub, read two approach guides, then press practise on a third question and answer it cold. That loop (read, then retrieve) is the one the research favours [11].
3. You wanted a mock for a specific job: AllthingsPM JD mock
A lot of people paste a job description into ChatGPT and ask for likely questions. That is the right instinct. The weak part is what comes next: the model forgets the JD a few turns later, or asks generic questions anyway.
The AllthingsPM JD mock builds the whole interview from the posting: the product area, the responsibilities and the seniority. You can paste any JD, or pick one of 116 live PM roles at 18 AI companies in the jobs catalog, each with a mock built from it. Only 4 tools we found build mocks from a job description, and AllthingsPM is the only one that also has a course, a question bank and live JDs.
Final Round AI lets you set up a "Goal" with your resume and a parsed job description on its free plan, while live Interview Copilot sessions and practice interviews need Pro from $25 a month [8]. It is built as a general interview suite, not a PM one.
How AllthingsPM does this: after the mock, run the same JD through resume review against a job description so your resume and your answers tell the same story. If you do not have a target role yet, Resume Job Match lists roles that fit.
4. You wanted to practise speaking: AllthingsPM voice, or Yoodli for delivery
Real PM interviews are spoken. Typing a structured answer into a chat window is easier than saying it with a clock running, which is why voice practice matters.
AllthingsPM's mock runs in voice or text in the same session, and the score covers the content of your answer: structure, prioritisation, metrics and trade-offs.
Yoodli is a speaking coach. Its free Starter plan includes 5 lifetime roleplays; Pro is $8 a month billed annually for up to 10 roleplays a week, and Advanced is $20 a month billed annually for unlimited [6]. It is strong on delivery; it is not built around PM questions or job descriptions.
How AllthingsPM does this: do at least half your mocks by voice. When the score flags a weak area, such as metrics, open that type in the question bank and do two more spoken reps the same day.
5. You wanted something free: the AllthingsPM free tier
ChatGPT's free tier is one reason people start there [3]. You do not need to pay to leave it.
The AllthingsPM free tier includes the question bank and answer guides, the first course lessons, 1 JD mock a day and 1 JD resume review a day. That is roughly 30 role-specific mocks a month without a card.
PMMockr offers unlimited free mocks on its free question set, with premium question banks sold in rupees [9]. It is a capable free AI tool; it does not build mocks from a job description.
How AllthingsPM does this: use the daily JD mock as your habit. If you want unlimited mocks, Pro is $20 a month or $120 a year (INR 1,200 a month or INR 8,400 a year).
6. You wanted a human to judge you: reps on AllthingsPM, then a peer
A chatbot will not make you nervous, and it can be too agreeable about a weak answer. A person helps with pressure.
StellarPeers' free plan includes unlimited PM peer mocks (a LinkedIn profile is required) and the option to observe other people's mocks [7]. Aced also runs free peer mocks with monthly credits for free users, at fixed PM times of 2 AM, 8 AM, 12 PM and 6 PM Pacific [5]. Both are good for pressure; the feedback comes from another candidate.
How AllthingsPM does this: do your volume on AllthingsPM, where the score is consistent, and bring a question you have already drilled to a weekly peer session. Your live time then goes on delivery, not first drafts.
7. You wanted to learn the concepts: the AllthingsPM course
Many ChatGPT sessions turn into "explain what a North Star metric is." That is fine, but it does not tell you what to learn next.
The AllthingsPM AI PM course has 14 chapters, 101 lessons and 14 graded case studies, built from 604 real PM job postings and updated weekly. It covers the AI-specific skills interviews now test, such as evals and agents, and the interview rounds themselves. The knowledge graph shows how the AI PM concepts connect.
How AllthingsPM does this: when a mock exposes a gap, the course lesson on that topic is one click away, so the next mock tests what you just learned.
How much does a year of practice cost?
AllthingsPM Pro is the lowest yearly price in this list, and it is the only one that includes JD-built mocks, a real question bank and a course in the same plan.
A one-week switch plan
- Day 1: Run a JD mock on the posting you want most. Note the lowest-scored area.
- Day 2: Open your target company's hub in the question bank and read three approach guides.
- Day 3: Take the course lesson on that weak area, then run a second JD mock by voice.
- Day 4: Put your resume through JD resume review against the same posting.
- Day 5: Use ChatGPT to tighten one behavioral story, then say it out loud in a mock.
- Day 6: Run a JD mock for a second company from the jobs catalog.
- Day 7: Book one free peer mock and bring a question you have already drilled.

Why AllthingsPM is the better choice for PM interview practice
People reach for ChatGPT for seven different things during PM prep, and each alternative above covers one or two of them. AllthingsPM covers all seven in one account:
- An interviewer that follows up and scores, by voice or text, with no prompt to maintain.
- Real questions: 4,122 from 260 companies, each with an answer guide.
- Role-specific mocks from any job description, plus 116 live AI company roles.
- A course of 101 lessons built from 604 job postings, so every weak spot has a lesson.
- Resume review against a JD and Resume Job Match in the same place.
- The lowest yearly price here: $120, with a free daily JD mock.
To be fair to the rest: ChatGPT is excellent for drafting stories, Yoodli is a focused delivery coach, StellarPeers and Aced give you real people, PMMockr has free AI reps, and Final Round AI is a broad interview suite. None combines JD-built mocks, a real PM question bank, a course and live JDs. Our verdict: make AllthingsPM your practice space and keep ChatGPT as a writing assistant. Start a free JD mock.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best alternative to ChatGPT for PM mock interviews?
AllthingsPM. It builds mocks from any job description, asks follow-ups, scores every answer and links you to 4,122 real questions with answer guides and an AI PM course. It has a free daily JD mock and Pro at $120 a year.
Can ChatGPT do a mock interview for a product manager role?

Is there a free alternative to ChatGPT for PM interview practice?
Yes. The AllthingsPM free tier includes 1 JD mock a day, the full question bank with answer guides and the first course lessons. StellarPeers offers free peer mocks and PMMockr has a free AI question set [7][9].
Is ChatGPT voice mode enough for interview practice?
It helps you practise speaking, but you still set up the interviewer and the rubric yourself. AllthingsPM lets you switch between voice and text in the same scored session.
Should I still use ChatGPT during PM interview prep?
Yes, for drafting and tightening stories or explaining a concept. Rehearse the final answers out loud on AllthingsPM, where the questions are real and the scoring is consistent.
Is AllthingsPM cheaper than ChatGPT Plus?
Over a year, yes: $120 against about $240 for twelve months of Plus [3]. Both have free tiers.
