What this question tests
Speed of ideation and breadth of product thinking: can you generate real, distinct ideas across the full order to delivery journey, not variations of one idea.
How to approach it
- Map the journey stages first: ordering, kitchen prep, dispatch, and last mile delivery, so ideas spread across all of them.
- For ordering, propose saved default orders and predictive reordering based on time of day.
- For kitchen, propose a live prep queue that sequences orders by drive time so pizza finishes cooking near pickup time.
- For dispatch, propose batching nearby orders to one driver and pre positioning drivers near predicted demand hotspots.
- For last mile, propose curbside pickup lockers and delivery drop zones for large apartment complexes.
- Rank the ideas by expected time saved versus implementation cost, and flag which one you would test first.
What a strong answer includes
- Spreads ideas across all four journey stages instead of clustering them all in one, like only delivery.
- Picks a testable first idea, such as prep queue sequencing, since it needs no new hardware.
- States a rough expected impact for the top idea, for example a few minutes saved per order, marked as an assumption.
Common mistakes
- Listing ten variations of the same idea, like different delivery app tweaks.
- No prioritization among the ten, leaving the interviewer without a clear top pick.
