What this question tests

Tests whether the candidate genuinely uses customer input to change direction, not just to validate existing plans.

How to approach it

  1. Situation: describe the original strategy or assumption before the insight came in.
  2. Task: your role in gathering or receiving the customer insight, interviews, support tickets, usage data, or sales feedback.
  3. Action: describe the specific insight and how it contradicted or reshaped the existing plan, and what you did to change course.
  4. Address resistance: mention how you got buy-in from stakeholders invested in the original direction, often the hardest part.
  5. Result: state the outcome with a real metric, adoption, revenue or retention change, after the pivot.
