The best cheaper alternative to Product School is AllthingsPM: an AI product management course built from 604 real PM job postings, mock interviews generated from any job description and 4,122 real interview questions with answer guides, for $20 a month or $120 a year, with a free tier. Product School charges $2,999 for one live certification, $3,999 a year for Pro and $4,999 a year for Unlimited [1]. That means one Product School certification costs the same as about 25 years of AllthingsPM.

What does Product School's price actually buy?
Product School lists three plans for individuals [1]:
- Single Certification, $2,999: one live, instructor-led course.
- Pro, $3,999 a year: two certifications, weekly live AI workshops, on-demand content and the alumni community.
- Unlimited, $4,999 a year: ten certifications, a ProductCon ticket and AI tool perks it values at over $50,000.
Cohorts run 3 weeks, part-time, taught by product leaders from companies such as Google, Meta, Shopify and Uber [1]. Product School also says alumni report an average salary increase of $15,045 [1]. That is its own figure from its own alumni, not an independent study.
So the price covers four things: live teaching, a certificate, community and perks. The useful question is which of those actually gets you hired. Working PMs are blunt about it: none of them directly. What gets you hired is knowing the material well enough to talk about it under pressure, and then passing the interview loop. Those two things are exactly what we built AllthingsPM around.
How AllthingsPM does this: instead of a fixed 3-week cohort, our AI PM course is self-paced and always open, and every lesson traces back to skills that show up in real job postings. You pay for the part that moves an offer, not for the event ticket.
Why AllthingsPM is the best value alternative
1. The course is built from what employers ask for
Most courses start from a curriculum someone designed. We started from the other end: 604 real PM job postings from 95 companies. We extracted what those postings demand and built the AI PM course backwards from that list: 14 chapters, 101 lessons and 14 graded case studies, updated every week as new AI PM postings appear. It covers the topics hiring managers now expect you to handle, including evals, the AI PRD, agents, and discovery and strategy for AI products. Every concept is mapped in a free knowledge graph, so you can see how evals connect to PRDs and where your gaps are.

2. It trains the part that decides offers: the interview
A certificate says you finished something. An interview decides whether you get the job. Paste any job description into the JD mock interview and an AI interviewer asks questions drawn from that posting, follows up on weak answers and scores you. You can type or answer by voice. The free tier includes one JD mock a day, which is enough to practise for a real application every single day without paying.
Of the tools we found, only 4 build mock interviews from a job description, and AllthingsPM is the only one that also has a course, a question bank and live JDs in the same place.
3. Real questions and real roles in one place
The question bank has 4,122 real PM interview questions from 260 companies. Each question has its own page and an answer guide, and each company has a page, so you can prepare for Google one evening and Anthropic the next. The jobs catalog lists 116 live PM job descriptions at 18 AI companies, each with a mock built from it. When you are ready to apply, Resume Job Match finds roles that fit your resume.
4. Everything else a self-taught PM needs
Product School bundles community and content. We bundle the study material a self-taught PM actually uses: 455 PM portfolios to learn how strong candidates present their work, 111 book summaries and podcast summaries for the reading list you never finish.
5. The price
$120 a year is the lowest paid price on this list. You could pay for AllthingsPM for 24 years for the price of one Product School certification, or 41 years for the price of one year of Unlimited.
What we do not have: live instructors, a peer cohort or an employer-recognised certificate. If you want a badge, add a free Pendo one below. It costs nothing and sits nicely next to real interview reps.
A 30-day plan that replaces a $2,999 certification
Here is a plan you can start tonight inside AllthingsPM. It mirrors the length of a Product School cohort (3 weeks) with an extra week for applications.
Week 1: foundations. Work through the first chapters of the AI PM course, about 45 minutes a day. Each evening, answer 3 questions from the question bank for a company you want, then compare your answer with the answer guide.
Week 2: the AI skills interviewers test. Do the evals and AI PRD chapters and one graded case study. Run one JD mock interview a day using a real posting you would apply to.
Week 3: company focus. Pick 2 or 3 roles from the jobs catalog. Run a mock for each, then re-run the one you scored lowest on. Study 5 PM portfolios and start your own.
Week 4: apply. Run your resume through Resume Job Match, send applications, and keep doing one mock a day for each role that replies.
Total cost if you stay on the free tier: $0. Total cost on Pro for the month: $20. Compare that with $2,999 for 3 weeks of live classes [1].
Where can I get a PM certificate for less?
Pendo Learning Lab (free). Pendo says its "Courses are completely free", and each ends in a verifiable badge for LinkedIn [3]. Topics include PM basics, AI across the product lifecycle and a Product Discovery certification made with Mind the Product. The courses are short and introductory, so treat the badge as proof you finished something.
Coursera Plus ($59 a month or $399 a year). It includes the IBM Product Manager Professional Certificate: 7 courses, about 3 months at 10 hours a week, no experience needed [4][5]. Duke's AI Product Management specialization is also on Coursera, with financial aid available [10].
Before paying for any certificate, note what PMs say. In r/ProductManagement, one commenter put it simply: "few employers will be impressed by a certificate program" [8]. Another says the certifications worth pursuing are the ones your employer sponsors [9].
How AllthingsPM does this: we do not sell a badge. We give you the skills and the interview reps that a badge is supposed to signal. The cheapest winning setup is a free Pendo badge for LinkedIn plus AllthingsPM for the course and the mock interviews.
Other paid alternatives, briefly
GoPractice AI/ML Simulator ($1,190). Simulated projects rather than lectures, and genuinely hands-on [6]. It costs about ten years of AllthingsPM and has no interview practice.
Reforge ($1,995 a year plus tax). A deep library for working PMs on growth, pricing and strategy [2]. Strong once you have the job; it is not built to help you get one.
Maven: Marily Nika's AI PM Bootcamp ($2,500). A live 5-week cohort with a capstone [7]. It is $499 less than one Product School certification. If you want live accountability, do your daily practice on AllthingsPM alongside it.
Maven: Product Faculty's AI PM Certification ($5,000). Often suggested as an alternative, but it costs more than Product School's single certification [11].
How AllthingsPM does this: none of these options builds a mock interview from the posting you are applying to. That is the gap we fill, and at $120 a year it fits alongside anything else you choose. Why AllthingsPM is the better choice for Product School alternatives
If you are paying out of your own pocket, the decision comes down to what you get per dollar and whether it moves you closer to an offer. On both counts AllthingsPM leads this list.
- Price: $120 a year, the lowest paid price here, with a free tier that includes a daily JD mock.
- Skills from real demand: a 101-lesson course built from 604 job postings and updated weekly, not a fixed syllabus.
- Interview practice for the exact role: mocks built from any job description, by text or voice, scored with follow-ups.
- Proof of preparation: 4,122 real questions with answer guides from 260 companies, and 116 live AI PM job descriptions to practise against.
- One place: resume review, portfolios, book and podcast summaries, all included.
Each rival has a genuine strength. Product School has live instructors from companies like Google and Meta and a large alumni network [1]. Pendo is free [3]. Coursera carries big university and IBM brands [4][5]. Reforge is deep for working PMs [2]. Maven gives you a live cohort [7]. But none of them combines a demand-built course with interview practice from the posting you are applying to, and none comes close on price.
Verdict: for most self-funded learners aiming at an AI PM role, AllthingsPM is the best alternative to Product School. Add a free Pendo badge if you want something for LinkedIn, and choose Product School only when your employer is paying for the live cohort. Start the AI PM course free.
