What this question tests

Tests conflict-resolution skill and technical credibility through a real story with a clear disagreement and resolution.

Pick a specific, real disagreement, ideally about scope, technical approach, or timeline, not a vague personality clash.
Describe the situation: what engineering wanted to do differently and why, showing you understood their technical reasoning, not just your own.
Explain how you resolved it: data, a prototype, a compromise scope, or escalation criteria you both agreed on in advance.
State the actual outcome, including whether you were right, wrong, or it was a genuine middle ground, since admitting you were wrong shows maturity.
Close with what you'd do differently next time to reach alignment faster.

Uses a specific technical disagreement (e.g. build vs buy, or a scalability concern) rather than a vague 'we didn't agree' story.
Shows you took engineering's technical concern seriously and adjusted your position with new information, not just insisted.
Quantifies the outcome, e.g. assume the compromise saved two weeks of engineering time while meeting 90% of the original requirement.
Reflects honestly, including a case where the outcome wasn't fully in your favor, showing this isn't a rehearsed 'I was right' story.

Telling a story where you were simply right and engineering was simply wrong, without any real tension or learning.
Being vague about the actual disagreement or the resolution process.
