What this question tests
Ownership and impact: whether the candidate can point to a concrete improvement they personally drove, not just team output.
How to approach it
- Pick one specific improvement you led, with a clear before and after.
- State the problem that existed before your change.
- Explain what you did and why you chose that approach over alternatives.
- Quantify the result with a real or best estimate metric.
- Note what you learned and how it changed your approach going forward.
What a strong answer includes
- Uses a real, specific example with a number, such as cutting onboarding drop off by 8 percentage points.
- Shows the candidate's own role clearly, not just 'the team shipped X'.
- Explains the reasoning behind the chosen approach over other options considered.
Common mistakes
- Talks about team wide wins without clarifying personal contribution.
- Gives no measurable outcome for the improvement.
Likely follow-up questions
