What this question tests
Self awareness and a genuine growth practice, not just a rehearsed platitude about learning.
How to approach it
- State a concrete, specific practice, such as regularly seeking feedback from engineers and designers on how you run projects.
- Give an example of feedback received that led to a real behavior change, not just a hypothetical.
- Describe a habit, such as reading postmortems on shipped features or following specific product thinkers, to stay sharp.
- Mention seeking out projects slightly outside your comfort zone to build new skills deliberately.
- Describe how you measure your own growth, for example by revisiting past decisions to see what you would do differently now.
- Keep the answer grounded in specific, checkable actions rather than vague claims like 'I always try to learn'.
What a strong answer includes
- Gives a specific, real feedback example and the behavior change that followed, not a generic 'I ask for feedback' claim.
- Names a concrete recurring habit, such as reading postmortems, rather than an abstract commitment to 'lifelong learning'.
- Shows self assessment over time, revisiting old decisions, which signals genuine reflective practice.
- Avoids buzzwords and instead describes checkable, specific actions an interviewer could probe further.
Common mistakes
- Giving a generic answer like 'I read a lot and stay curious' with no specific example or mechanism.
- Only naming external inputs (courses, books) with no mention of applying or testing what was learned.
- Sounding rehearsed with no genuine personal example.
Likely follow-up questions
- Can you give a specific example of feedback that changed how you work?
- What is an area you are actively working to improve right now?
- How do you know if your improvement efforts are actually working?
