Situation: pick a real project where the existing approach was clearly inadequate.
Task: state the constraint that forced a non-obvious solution, limited budget, no precedent, or a tight timeline.
Action: describe the specific unconventional idea and why it wasn't the obvious first choice.
Result: quantify the outcome, time saved, cost avoided, or an adoption number, to prove it worked, not just that it was clever.
Reflection: note what made it innovative specifically, simplification, a new mechanism, or combining existing tools in a new way.
Keep the story tightly scoped to one decision, not a whole project history.

Picks something genuinely non-obvious, not a routine process improvement mislabeled as innovative.
Quantifies impact concretely, for example cutting onboarding time from two weeks to three days.
Explains the reasoning behind the idea, not just the what, which is what interviewers actually probe for.

Describing something that was simply 'doing the job well' rather than a genuine departure from the norm.
No measurable result to prove the innovation actually mattered.
