AllthingsPM vs Product Management Exercises: Question Bank or AI Mock Interviews

For most PM candidates, AllthingsPM is the better buy: an AI interviewer that asks, follows up and scores you, mocks from any job description, 4,122 questions and an AI PM course for $120 a year, against $149 a year for Product Management Exercises' question bank and community.

Reading answers and giving them out loud are two different kinds of practice.

Short answer: for most PM candidates, AllthingsPM is the better choice. It gives you an AI interviewer that asks the question, follows up and scores you by text or voice, mocks built from the exact job description you are applying to, a bank of 4,122 questions across 260 companies with an answer guide on every one, and an AI PM course, for $120 a year or $20 for one month. Product Management Exercises (PM Exercises) is a large question bank and community (3,185 questions across 230 companies when we checked) with peer mocks and paid coaches, for $149 a year with no monthly plan. It has no AI mock interviewer that we could find.

Every PM Exercises fact below comes from its live site, checked on September 25 and 26, 2026.

Question bank vs AI mock interviews: which gets you ready?

You need a bank to know what gets asked, and reps out loud to produce a good answer in 40 minutes with someone pushing back. PM Exercises' own question page says it well: "writing notes is not enough; the thinking-on-your-feet part is what fails people."

Learning research agrees. In a 2006 Psychological Science study, Roediger and Karpicke had students either re-read a passage or test themselves on it. Re-reading won on a test five minutes later, but testing produced substantially better recall two days and a week later. Reading 50 model answers to "How would you improve Google Maps?" feels productive; producing your own answer cold, and being told where it was thin, is what sticks.

Candidates say the same. In a 2025 r/ProductManagement thread comparing Exponent and PM Exercises, one reply put it plainly: "It's practice and mocks that will make a difference." A January 2025 PM Exercises subscriber complained that the site mostly asks you to write long answers with no instant feedback, and a May 2026 r/prodmgmt post described the problem: "After answering a practice question, I genuinely had no idea if it was good."

PM Exercises answers the feedback problem with people: post an answer and get comments, book a peer, pay a coach. That feedback is rich but slow and costs time or money per session. AllthingsPM answers it with an AI interviewer: feedback in seconds, at 2am, as many times as you want on Pro.

Whose question bank is better?

AllthingsPM, on size, format and AI coverage. On classic big-tech questions the two are close: both have about 950 Google, 750 Meta, 275 Amazon and 170 Microsoft questions. Our edge there is format: an answer guide on every question, its own page, and a button to be interviewed on it. PM Exercises has a larger archive of community answers, though users are split on quality (one 2025 Reddit reply called the material "subpar", another "very helpful").

On AI companies, the gap is large. PM Exercises' company filter showed 4 Anthropic questions when we checked, and its Artificial Intelligence category held 42. Our bank has 105 Anthropic and 98 OpenAI questions, many derived from those companies' own job descriptions, with company hubs for Anthropic, OpenAI and Google.

How AllthingsPM does this: every one of our 4,122 questions has its own page with an answer guide and a button that starts a scored mock on it. Browse by company in the question bank, read the guide, then say your answer out loud to our AI interviewer and see where it was thin.

Can PM Exercises do AI mock interviews?

Not that we could find. In September 2026 its navigation, pricing table and practice page listed peer mocks, recorded expert mocks, group practice and coaching, but no AI interviewer and no automatic scoring of your answer. That matters in three common situations:

  1. Your interview is in days. Booking peers and coaches takes scheduling; an AI mock takes a click.
  2. Your time zone does not fit. PM Exercises' daily peer session runs at 6pm PST, which is 6:30am in India.
  3. You want many reps on one weak spot. Ten metrics questions in an evening, each scored, is hard to arrange with humans.

How AllthingsPM does this: our mock interview asks the question, pushes back with follow-ups the way a real interviewer would, and scores your answer the moment you finish, by text or voice. No booking, no time zone, no waiting for a comment thread. Ten scored reps in one evening is a normal session for us.

Why a mock from your job description matters

Generic practice prepares you for a generic interview. Our JD mock takes the job description you paste and builds the interview around that role's responsibilities, product area and seniority, then scores you the way a panel would.

PM Exercises' closest equivalent is its 150+ company practice plans, which tell you what a company tends to ask. That is company-level, not role-level, and a Growth PM loop and a Safety PM loop at the same AI lab look very different. Each of the 116 roles in our jobs catalog, such as Product Manager, Growth at Anthropic, has its own mock, and you can check your resume against the same JD before you apply. Only 4 tools we found do JD-based mocks at all, and AllthingsPM is the only one that also has the course, question bank and live JDs.

Prices checked September 2026. PM Exercises displays yearly plans as a monthly figure, billed annually.

  • Short prep window: PM Exercises' cheapest paid access is the $139 one-time Lite plan. One month of our Pro is $20.
  • Long prep window: $120 against $149, and our plan includes the AI PM course that PM Exercises sells separately for $399.
  • Everything: PM Exercises' full bundle is $499 a year; our Pro covers mocks, bank, course, jobs and resume review for $120.

How AllthingsPM does this: the $20 month is our answer to the short prep window. You get the full Pro plan (mocks, bank, course, jobs, resume review) for the four weeks you actually need, and the free tier lets you test the feedback first.

Which is better for AI PM roles?

AllthingsPM. Our AI PM course was built backwards from 604 PM job postings and is updated weekly from live AI PM postings, with lessons like the AI product sense and execution rounds. The bank and jobs catalog lean heavily toward AI companies, so you learn what the loops test and then rehearse it against real JDs. For the questions themselves, see our AI PM interview questions guide.

PM Exercises sells AI PM training (a 5-week live cohort and self-paced courses with LinkedIn certificates) at $399 a year on top of interview prep. If you want an instructor-led cohort, that is a real offer; but a certificate will not carry an AI PM loop on its own. Being able to reason about evals, agent failure modes and model tradeoffs out loud will, and that is what our mocks train.

How AllthingsPM does this: course, question bank, JD mocks and the jobs catalog share one login, so the path is learn the concept, answer the question, rehearse the real JD. We also keep podcast summaries of AI PM episodes for your commute.

A 14-day plan to get interview-ready on AllthingsPM

If your loop is two weeks out, here is how to use the tools we just compared, in order, without wasting a day.

  1. Day 1: set your baseline. Paste the job description into the JD mock and do one full interview cold. Note the two lowest-scoring dimensions. That is your plan, not a generic syllabus.
  2. Days 2 to 4: fill the knowledge gap. Open the AI PM course chapters that match your weak areas. If the role touches models, do the lessons on evals and the product sense round before anything else.
  3. Days 5 to 9: reps on the weak spot. Pick 10 questions from the question bank for your target company hub. Answer each out loud first, then read the answer guide, then do a mock on the same question and compare scores.
  4. Day 10: resume check. Run JD resume review against the same posting so the stories you tell in the interview match the bullets they already read.
  5. Days 11 to 13: full loops. One JD mock a day in voice mode, follow-ups on. Treat it like the real thing: no notes.
  6. Day 14: rest and review. Reread your three best answers. If you want a human read before the real loop, this is the one point where a paid coach session adds the most.

On PM Exercises the same plan works for steps 2 and 3 (reading and writing answers), but steps 1, 3's scored mock, 4 and 5 would need peers or a coach to schedule, or would not be available at all.

Checklist before you pick a prep tool

  • Does it score your answer the moment you finish, or do you wait for a person?
  • Can it build an interview from the exact JD you are applying to?
  • Does it cover the companies you are targeting, including AI labs?
  • Can you pay for one month instead of a year?
  • Does it teach AI PM concepts, not just list questions?

AllthingsPM says yes to all five. PM Exercises says yes to the third for big tech and to none of the others as of September 2026.

Why AllthingsPM is the better choice for PM interview practice

Practice only counts when someone pushes back on your answer and tells you where it was thin. AllthingsPM does that on every question, instantly, by text or voice, and PM Exercises does not have an AI interviewer that we could find.

The concrete advantages stack up. We have 4,122 questions across 260 companies with an answer guide on each, against 3,185 across 230. We have 105 Anthropic and 98 OpenAI questions against 4 Anthropic questions in its filter. Our JD mock builds an interview from any job description, and 116 live AI PM roles each come with a ready mock. Resume review against a JD, an AI PM course built from 604 job postings, 111 book summaries, podcast summaries and 455 PM portfolios sit in the same subscription. All of that costs $120 a year or $20 for a single month, while PM Exercises charges $149 a year for interview prep and $499 for its full bundle.

PM Exercises' genuine strength is people: daily peer mocks, a long-running community and paid coaches. That is real, and if you want a human read, a single coach session near the end of your prep is a sensible add-on. For the daily reps that actually build the skill, it costs far more per scored answer.

Verdict: AllthingsPM is the stronger and cheaper way to prepare, especially for AI PM roles. Start your first JD mock free. For more comparisons, see AllthingsPM vs Aced (Exponent) and the best PM mock interview platforms.

Your next interview will not ask whether you read the answer; it will ask you to give one. Open AllthingsPM, paste the job description you care about, and do your first scored mock today, free. It takes ten minutes to know exactly where you stand.
