What a cohort promises, and what it actually costs to get the same things another way.

Short answer: the cheapest complete alternative to a $2,000+ AI PM cohort is AllthingsPM, at $120 a year or $20 a month with a free tier. You get an AI PM course of 14 chapters and 101 lessons built from 604 real PM job postings, 14 graded case studies, mock interviews built from any job description, and 4,122 real interview questions with answer guides. The popular Maven cohorts cost $2,500 (Marily Nika) to $5,000 (Product Faculty), and Product School's AI PM certification is $2,999.

AllthingsPM is an AI PM course and PM interview prep platform. Below, each cheaper option is organised by what you actually wanted from the cohort: structure, a live teacher, a certificate, hands on projects, one deep skill, or a job offer. Prices were checked on 28 September 2026 on each vendor's own page.

Why are AI PM cohort courses so expensive?

Cohort courses price in the instructor's time. Maven's AI PM programs list live sessions, recorded content, projects and office hours. Marily Nika's bootcamp, for example, runs 5 weeks at 4 to 6 hours a week, with live sessions, async content and a capstone, for $2,500. Product Faculty's certification lists $5,000 and bundles access to six more live certifications that it values at $26,495.

Those are real benefits. But most of the price pays for scheduled live time with a person. If what you need is a structured path, a lot of practice and feedback on interview answers, you are paying for a delivery format, not for the knowledge.

Reddit threads in r/ProductManagement keep asking the same question: are AI PM bootcamps worth it? The recurring answer is that hiring managers care about what you can do and show, not the certificate.

How AllthingsPM does this. The AI PM course is self paced, so the price does not carry live instructor hours. Every lesson maps to skills that show up in real AI PM job postings, and the graded case studies give you the feedback loop a cohort's assignments would.

If you wanted structure: what is the cheapest structured AI PM course?

The main reason people buy a cohort is a sequence: what to learn first, what next, and when you are done. Free YouTube playlists fail here because nothing tells you what is missing.

The cheapest structured path we know of is AllthingsPM. The course runs in 14 chapters, from foundations through evals, the AI PRD and agents and agentic architecture to business cases and getting the job. Each chapter ends in practice rather than a quiz.

Coursera's Duke AI Product Management specialization is also structured: 3 courses over about 4 months at 3 to 5 hours a week. It leans on classic machine learning, and the course page states you cannot take it for free, though financial aid is offered.

How AllthingsPM does this. Start with the free first lessons of the AI PM course, then follow the chapter order. The knowledge graph shows how the AI concepts connect, so you can see which gaps remain before an interview.

If you wanted a live teacher: how do you get feedback without a cohort?

Live classes give you two things: explanation and feedback. Recorded lessons cover the first. The second is harder, and it is where most self study fails.

Feedback on product thinking comes cheapest from practice that talks back. An AI interviewer that asks a question, follows up on your weak point ("why that metric?", "what would you cut?") and scores the answer gives you many more feedback rounds than a weekly live session.

Peer groups are the other free option. Many PMs find a practice partner in PM communities and swap mock interviews. The limit is scheduling and the partner's own skill.

How AllthingsPM does this. Use the mock interview for any question type, by text or voice, with follow ups and a score. For a real target role, paste the posting into the JD mock and the interview is built around that role.

If you wanted a certificate: is a cheap AI PM certificate worth it?

If a certificate is the goal, the cheaper route is Coursera. Duke, IBM and Microsoft each offer AI product management programs there, paid through a Coursera subscription (₹2,099 a month or ₹13,999 a year when viewed from India). Product School's AI PM certification lists $2,999 as a single course.

Be honest with yourself about what the certificate buys. In our corpus of 604 real PM job postings, AI PM listings ask for shipped products, evals, metrics and technical fluency, not a named certificate. We cover that in detail in what AI PM courses teach vs what AI PM jobs want.

AllthingsPM does not issue a recognised certificate. It trades that for proof you can show: case study work, practiced interview answers and a resume tuned to the job.

How AllthingsPM does this. Run your resume through the resume review against a JD to see how your experience maps to a specific AI PM posting. Browse 455 PM portfolios for examples of the proof hiring managers read first.

If you wanted hands on projects: what replaces a capstone?

A capstone is valuable because it forces you to make product calls on a real AI system. You can get that without the cohort.

GoPractice's AI/ML Simulator ($1,190, about 60 hours) puts you in the role of a PM leading an AI team across four projects, including a GPT based assistant and a recommendation engine. It is a good hands on option if you want simulation.

The cheaper route is to build a small project yourself and write it up the way a hiring manager would read it: problem, eval plan, metrics, guardrails, launch decision.

How AllthingsPM does this. The course's 14 graded case studies are the capstone substitute. Write an AI PRD with guardrails for your project, then use the take-home and portfolio lesson to present it. The free AI PRD template gets you started.

If you wanted one deep skill: when is a specialist course worth it?

Sometimes a cohort really is the right buy. Hamel Husain and Shreya Shankar's AI Evals for Engineers and PMs ($4,200, 6 weeks, 3 to 5 hours a week) goes deep on error analysis, LLM as judge design and CI integration. Its Maven page shows a 4.7 out of 5 rating from 901 reviews.

If your job is to own AI quality and your employer pays, that depth is worth it. If you are preparing for interviews or switching into AI PM, you need working fluency across evals, agents, metrics and cost, not a specialist's depth in one.

For free technical depth, DeepLearning.AI's short courses cover LLMs, agents and evals at no cost for the videos.

How AllthingsPM does this. The evals chapter teaches what a PM needs to define good and defend the number, and our AI evals guide for product managers is free. Real evals roles, such as Product Lead, AI/ML (Evals) at Abridge, show what employers expect.

If you wanted a job offer: what actually prepares you for AI PM interviews?

Most people buy a cohort hoping it leads to a job. Cohorts teach, but few of them run you through dozens of interview questions from the companies you want.

Interview readiness comes from reps on real questions. AllthingsPM's question bank has 4,122 real PM questions from 260 companies, each on its own page with an answer guide. Company hubs such as Anthropic PM interview questions group them by employer.

Then practice against live roles. Our jobs catalog has 116 live PM job descriptions at 18 AI companies, such as Product Manager, API Agents at OpenAI, and each one has a mock interview built from it.

How AllthingsPM does this. Pick a real question like designing an evaluation framework for enterprise agents, read the guide, then answer it in a mock interview. Use Resume Job Match to find roles that fit your background.

How do you build a $120 AI PM study plan that beats a cohort?

Here is a plan that covers what a $2,500 cohort does, for the price of one AllthingsPM year:

  1. Weeks 1 to 4, foundations. Work through the first chapters of the AI PM course, 4 to 6 hours a week, the same load a Maven cohort asks for.
  2. Weeks 5 to 8, core AI PM skills. Evals, the AI PRD and agents. Add one free DeepLearning.AI short course if you want more technical depth.
  3. Weeks 9 to 10, a capstone. Write an AI PRD for a small project and present it using the portfolio lesson.
  4. Weeks 11 to 12, interviews. Two or three mocks a week from the JD mock, plus questions from the bank for your target companies.
  5. Ongoing, applications. Tune your resume against each posting with the JD resume review.

How AllthingsPM does this. Every step above is inside one subscription, so you do not stitch together five tools. Progress is tracked across the course, and each mock gives you a score to compare week to week.

Why AllthingsPM is the better choice for a cheap AI product management course

The question is not whether a cohort is good. The best ones are. The question is what you get per dollar, and whether the parts you pay most for (live hours) are the parts you need.

AllthingsPM gives you a structured AI PM course built from 604 real job postings and updated weekly, 14 graded case studies, mock interviews from any job description, 4,122 real questions with answer guides, 116 live AI company roles with their own mocks and resume review against a JD. It costs $120 a year, about a twentieth of a $2,500 cohort, with a free tier to try first.

The cohorts have real strengths. Marily Nika's and Product Faculty's programs offer live teaching and a certificate, and the AI Evals course goes deeper on one skill than any general course. If your employer pays, those are fine choices. For everyone paying out of pocket to learn AI PM and get hired, AllthingsPM covers more of what hiring managers test for, and it keeps you practicing long after a 5 week cohort ends.

Verdict: start with AllthingsPM. Add a specialist cohort later only if your job calls for that one skill in depth.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best cheap AI product management course?

AllthingsPM is the best cheap AI product management course for most people: $120 a year or $20 a month, with a free tier. It includes an AI PM course built from 604 real job postings, mock interviews from any job description and 4,122 real interview questions. For free technical depth, add DeepLearning.AI's short courses.

Are $2,000 AI PM cohort courses worth it?

They can be when your employer pays and you want live teaching and a certificate. Most of the price covers live instructor time. If you are paying yourself, a self paced course plus lots of interview practice usually gives more value per dollar.

Is there a free AI product management course?

Yes. AllthingsPM's first course lessons, question bank and one JD mock a day are free. DeepLearning.AI's short course videos are free too. Coursera's Duke specialization is paid through a Coursera subscription, with financial aid available.

Do employers care about AI PM certificates?

In the 604 PM job postings we analysed, AI PM listings asked for shipped work, evals, metrics and technical fluency rather than a named certificate. A certificate rarely hurts, but a strong case study and sharp interview answers matter more.

How long does it take to learn AI product management on your own?

A structured plan at 4 to 6 hours a week, the same load Maven's cohorts ask for, covers the core skills in about 12 weeks. That includes foundations, evals, the AI PRD, agents, a small capstone and interview practice.

Can I get feedback without a live cohort?

Yes. AI mock interviews ask follow up questions and score your answers, and you can run them daily. AllthingsPM's mocks work by text or voice and can be built from any job description.
