What this question tests
Behavioral evidence of concrete impact on ad revenue, checking for specificity and measurable outcomes.
How to approach it
- Situation: pick two distinct examples, ideally different levers, such as pricing or placement, and a targeting or product improvement.
- Task: state the specific goal for each, such as increasing fill rate or improving CPM for a given inventory type.
- Action: describe the concrete change you drove, for example introducing header bidding, improving ad placement density, or adding a new ad format.
- Action: describe how you tested or validated the change before full rollout.
- Result: give a quantified outcome for each, framed clearly as illustrative if exact numbers are not recalled precisely.
- Result: note any tradeoff you managed, like balancing revenue lift against user experience or page load time.
What a strong answer includes
- Uses two genuinely different levers, for example one pricing or auction mechanism change and one placement or format change, to show range.
- States illustrative but clearly-marked numbers, such as an assumed 15 percent CPM lift from a header bidding change.
- Explains how user experience was protected, for instance capping ad density or load time, not just chasing revenue.
- Shows the learning was durable, for example the change became a standard practice afterward.
Common mistakes
- Giving vague claims like 'I improved ad revenue' without a concrete mechanism or number.
- Choosing two examples that are really the same lever applied twice.
- Ignoring the user experience tradeoff that usually accompanies monetization gains.
Likely follow-up questions
- What tradeoff did you have to manage between revenue and user experience in either example?
- How did you validate the improvement was caused by your change and not external factors?
