Read the chart this way: volume matters because interviewers rarely repeat the textbook classics. The more real prompts you have seen, the faster you pick the right shape (a population funnel, users times frequency, or price times volume) when a new one arrives.
What makes a good guesstimate practice website?
A guesstimate question asks you to estimate a number you cannot look up, such as how many Google searches happen per second, and the interviewer grades the path, not the answer. HelloPM's guide puts it plainly: the answer matters less than the process [5]. So a good practice site needs four things:
- Real questions, lots of them. Not ten classics but hundreds of prompts from actual loops, sorted by difficulty and company.
- A worked approach for each. You need to compare your structure with a strong one after you try, not before.
- Practice out loud with pushback. In the room, the interviewer interrupts: "Why 30% smartphone penetration?" Reading a solution never trains that moment.
- Feedback and a score. Without one, you repeat the same mistake for weeks.
Most free sites deliver the first two partly. Very few deliver the last two.
How AllthingsPM does this. Every estimation question in the AllthingsPM question bank has its own page that lays out what the question tests and a numbered approach. From that page you can answer in a mock interview where the AI interviewer asks follow-ups about your weakest assumption and scores the answer. That is all four needs, on one screen.
The best guesstimate practice websites, ranked
1. AllthingsPM: best overall for real questions plus scored practice
AllthingsPM's question bank holds 4,122 real PM interview questions from 260 companies, and 272 of them are estimation questions: 124 Beginner, 80 Intermediate and 68 Advanced. 157 were reported from Google interviews. Each has its own page, such as calculate the number of queries answered by Google per second, estimate the number of hotels in NYC or estimate the number of orders delivered by Swiggy per hour in India.
What sets it apart is the newer category. 26 estimation questions are tagged to AI companies, for example estimate how many GPUs OpenAI needs to serve 1 billion weekly ChatGPT users and estimate Cursor's monthly LLM API cost per Pro user. You will not find those on the classic lists.
The free tier covers daily practice; Pro is $20 a month or $120 a year for unlimited mocks. It has no human coaches, so add a peer mock before a real loop.
2. Aced (formerly Exponent)
Aced's question library shows 82 PM estimation questions, many with community answers [1]. Basic is free with 5 peer mocks a month; Pro is $12 a month billed annually ($79 month to month), and a $20 a month annual tier adds AI mocks [2]. Its peer community is its real strength. For more questions and a mock on each one, use AllthingsPM.
3. StellarPeers
StellarPeers gives free, unlimited peer mocks with LinkedIn verification. Paid plans unlock 60+ solved questions and 300+ interview questions [3]. It is the best free source of a live human partner for a guesstimate round.
4. RocketBlocks
RocketBlocks sells PM drills, including estimating market opportunities, at $35 a month or $155 a year, with coaching at $200 an hour [4]. It does not publish how many estimation drills it has.
5. The Product Folks
A free library of 32 guesstimate case studies built around companies such as Flipkart, Swiggy, Blinkit and Netflix [6]. Good reading for Indian consumer app loops.
6. PrepLounge
Built for consulting, but its market sizing guide lists 14 sample questions and it has a mental math tool to build calculation speed [7]. Useful if arithmetic under pressure is your weak point.
7. HelloPM
A free guide with an eight-step framework, three worked examples (Google queries per second, ATMs in India, McDonald's daily revenue in India) and five must-do prompts [5]. A good first read before you start drilling.
Two more free reads worth a look: Unstop's list of 10 solved PM and market sizing guesstimates [8], and NextLeap's guesstimates topic page [9].
How AllthingsPM does this. You do not need seven tabs open. Read one framework, then work the AllthingsPM question bank from Beginner up to Advanced, answering each in a scored mock. When you want company-specific drills, open a company page such as Google, which lists every question reported from its loops.
How should you practice guesstimates each day?
Here is a routine that works on any site, and costs nothing on the AllthingsPM free tier.
Step 1: pick one question at your level. Start with Beginner population funnels (piano tuners, gas stations, hotels) until you can finish one in eight minutes.
Step 2: clarify before you compute. Say the scope out loud: which city, which time window, what counts as a "user". HelloPM's framework puts clarification first [5].
Step 3: write the equation. Before any number, write the formula: population times share times frequency. Interviewers want to see the tree.
Step 4: use round numbers. 330 million becomes 300 million. Nobody grades the third digit.
Step 5: sanity check. Compare your answer with one number you know. If you estimate more gas stations in San Francisco than there are streets, something broke.
Step 6: compare with the guide, then redo it. Read the question's approach, note the one assumption you missed, and answer the same question again two days later.
How AllthingsPM does this. Steps 2 to 5 are exactly what our mock interview probes: it asks you to clarify, challenges the weakest multiplier and scores the structure. Step 6 is the answer guide on every question page. For fully worked examples, read 45 guesstimate questions for PMs with solutions and estimation and guesstimate questions with worked answers.
Which guesstimate types come up most in PM interviews?
Across the lists above, three shapes cover most prompts:
| Shape | Example | Core equation |
|---|---|---|
| Population funnel | Piano tuners in San Francisco | People, share who own it, service frequency, capacity per worker |
| Users times frequency | Google searches per second | Users, actions per user per day, divided by seconds in a day |
| Price times volume | Airbnb's annual US revenue | Units sold times average price times take rate |
A fourth shape is growing fast: AI cost and capacity. PM loops at AI companies ask you to estimate inference cost or GPU count, which needs you to know how tokens, requests and cost per token relate. That is not something the classic guesstimate sites cover.
How AllthingsPM does this. The AI PM course has free lessons on what each token costs and on reading the usage block of an API call, so the cost multipliers in an AI guesstimate are numbers you understand, not guesses. Then practice the 26 AI company estimation questions in the bank, like the daily inference cost of running ChatGPT's free tier.
How do you prepare guesstimates for a specific company?
General practice gets you fluent. The last week before a loop should be specific.
- Open the company's question page. See what its interviewers have actually asked and at which level.
- Practice the company's context. A Swiggy loop leans on orders and delivery partners; a Google loop on queries, storage and devices.
- Rehearse against the real job description. Estimation often shows up inside product sense or strategy answers ("How big is this market?"), so practice those rounds too.
How AllthingsPM does this. Paste the posting into the JD mock and the AI interviewer builds the interview around that company, role and level, including sizing questions where the role calls for them. If you are targeting AI roles, the jobs catalog holds 116 live PM job descriptions at 18 AI companies, each with a mock built from it.
Why AllthingsPM is the better choice for PM guesstimate practice
Guesstimates are a performance skill. You get better by answering real prompts out loud, getting challenged on your assumptions and seeing a score, many times. That is the loop AllthingsPM is built for.
- The biggest real question list we found. 272 estimation questions, against 82 on Aced and 32 case studies on The Product Folks, each with its own page and answer guide.
- A scored mock on every question. The AI interviewer asks follow-ups on your weakest assumption, in text or voice, the moment you want to practice.
- Company and AI coverage. 157 questions reported from Google, a page per company, and 26 AI economics guesstimates that classic lists do not have.
- Everything else you need in the same account. An AI PM course built from 604 real job postings, JD-based mocks, and 116 live AI company job descriptions.
- Price. A free tier every day, and unlimited mocks at $20 a month or $120 a year.
The other sites have real strengths. StellarPeers and Aced give you live human partners, and HelloPM and PrepLounge write clear free guides. Read one guide, book one peer mock before your loop, and do the daily work on AllthingsPM. Browse the estimation questions free.
Your next guesstimate round will not use a question you memorised. Open AllthingsPM, pick one estimation question, and answer it out loud in a scored mock today; by the end of the week you will know which assumption you always skip.
