The Harvey product manager interview, based on public guides, runs through a recruiter screen, a hiring manager conversation, role-specific rounds and a final panel, and it tests one thing above all: can you make AI output trustworthy enough for lawyers to use on real matters. Harvey does not publish its PM loop, so the best preparation is the job itself. AllthingsPM has 60 Harvey PM questions, each with its own page and answer guide, plus a scored mock built from each of the 7 live Harvey job descriptions we track, from Vault to Infrastructure to New Verticals.
AllthingsPM is an AI PM course and PM interview prep platform, and it is not affiliated with Harvey. Below, we label what Harvey publishes, what third-party guides report and what comes from our own question bank.
What is the Harvey PM interview process?
Harvey's careers site and its COO's hiring guide describe the values and the culture, not the rounds. Third-party guides fill in a general shape, mostly from engineering and go-to-market candidates. Scoutify notes that "Product, Design, and Data loops differ" from the standard engineering loop, so treat the table below as a typical outline, not a script.
| Stage | What is reported | Source | What it likely tests for a PM |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recruiter screen | A short call on your background, why Harvey, and logistics such as level and location | techinterview.org | A crisp "why legal AI" story |
| Hiring manager screen | About 45 minutes on background, motivation and role fit | techinterview.org | Ownership, scope, domain curiosity |
| Role-specific rounds | Rounds vary by function; go-to-market and legal roles lean on case-style questions about serving law firms and enterprise clients | techinterview.org; Scoutify | Product sense, strategy, metrics, technical depth |
| Panel or onsite | A final set of interviews with several team members | techinterview.org | Cross-functional fit and values |
| Founder conversation | Reported for senior and above roles: product vision and why you want to build in legal AI | techinterview.org | Conviction and judgment |
The same guide puts the whole process at 3 to 5 weeks, though it describes engineering loops. Taro and Aced list no Harvey PM interview reports at the time of writing, which is why a role-specific plan matters more here than a crowd-sourced one. Ask your recruiter for the exact rounds and whether there is a case or presentation.
How AllthingsPM does this. Because the public round list is thin, our JD mock interview builds the interview from the exact Harvey posting you pick, asks follow-ups and scores you, typed or spoken. You can rehearse the Senior/Staff PM, Vault role and the Staff PM, Infrastructure role as separate interviews instead of one generic guess. The free tier includes one JD mock a day.
What does Harvey do, and why does it shape the interview?
Harvey builds AI for legal and professional services. Winston Weinberg and Gabriel Pereyra founded it in the summer of 2022 in San Francisco, and early customers included Allen & Overy (now A&O Shearman) and Paul Weiss. On 9 September 2026 Harvey announced a $550 million round at a $15.5 billion valuation, co-led by Diffusion and Lightspeed. The announcement says 80% of Am Law 100 law firms and five Fortune 10 companies use Harvey.
The product surface has grown well past a chat box. The same announcement names Vault, Agents, Knowledge, Spaces, Command Center, Contract Intelligence, Horizon Scanning, Harvey Mobile and Memory, and Harvey's job postings describe Vault as the document and knowledge platform with "AI-enabled search and Q&A, document extraction, secure sharing across workspaces" and integrations with iManage, SharePoint and Dropbox.
Three things follow for your answers:
- Accuracy is not a metric, it is the license to operate. A lawyer who catches one invented citation stops trusting the tool. Our bank asks how you would prevent and handle hallucinated case law.
- Security and permissions decide deals. Several Harvey questions turn on SSO, SCIM, audit logs and matter-level ethical walls.
- Adoption is the hard part. Firms buy, but partners and associates must change habits. Expect questions on growing adoption among risk-averse firms.
How AllthingsPM does this. Our AI PM course teaches this vocabulary directly: claim-level citations and confidence, permission-aware retrieval and the oversharing leak, and why documents are not text. Those are the words a Harvey interviewer will use.
What does Harvey look for in a product manager?
The job descriptions are the most reliable signal. We track 7 live Harvey postings in our jobs catalog: six PM roles in San Francisco and New York, plus a Head of Product Communications role. Every posting repeats Harvey's three values: "Decisiveness, Simplicity, and Job's Not Finished."
| Harvey role (US) | Base salary in the posting | Experience asked | Focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Senior/Staff PM, Vault (New York, San Francisco) | $177,700 to $266,500 | 8+ years PM, 3+ at Staff or Senior level | Document and knowledge platform, search, integrations |
| Staff PM, Infrastructure (San Francisco) | $213,600 to $300,000 | 6+ years PM | Reliability, multi-region, observability |
| Staff PM, New Verticals (New York) | $215,000 to $300,000 | 8+ years work, 3+ years PM or related | Agent solutions for strategic accounts |
| Staff PM (San Francisco) | $215,000 to $300,000 | 5+ years enterprise B2B | Integrations, MCP, deep research |
| Innovation PM (New York) | $178,500 to $241,500 | Top law firm or in-house legal experience | Pilots and rollouts with law firms |
Ranges are from Harvey's Ashby postings as stored in our catalog, checked 28 September 2026. Equity is not shown.
The postings share a pattern:
- Technical depth. The Vault role wants the "ability to engage deeply with engineering on system design, distributed systems, data pipelines, and retrieval architectures." The Infrastructure role asks for comfort with "distributed systems, APIs, and cloud infrastructure."
- Customer proximity. The Innovation PM role says "We don't build software for lawyers; we build it with them."
- Repeatability. The New Verticals role is about "turning bespoke deployments into scalable products, pricing models, and commercial frameworks for entire verticals."
- Office time. Harvey's COO writes that "the majority of associates come into one of our global offices 3+ days per week," and the Staff PM posting names a 3 day in-person model.
Legal experience is a plus in most postings and required only for the Innovation PM role. Harvey's COO says non-lawyers "do need to be curious about our customers and their day-to-day challenges."
How AllthingsPM does this. Every Harvey role above has its own page with the full JD and a mock built from it, such as Staff PM, New Verticals and Innovation Product Manager. Run our resume review against the JD on the posting you want, so your resume shows technical depth and customer work in the same lines.
What questions does Harvey ask product managers?
We hold 60 Harvey PM questions in our Harvey question hub: 20 strategy, 12 product design, 12 metrics, 8 behavioral, 7 AI and technical and 1 estimation. Each has its own page with an answer guide, and any of them can start a mock. Our questions are built from Harvey's products and live job descriptions; they are practice prompts, not leaked transcripts.
Strategy dominates because Harvey PMs constantly choose between custom work for a flagship firm and the core platform. Real questions by type:
Product design:
- Design a citation system so lawyers can fully trust Harvey's outputs.
- How would you improve Harvey's Vault for bulk document review at large law firms?
- Design a Workflow Builder that lets non-technical lawyers automate recurring tasks.
- A global law firm wants Harvey for M&A diligence, but each partner runs diligence differently. How would you pick one pilot workflow?
Strategy:
- How should Harvey price for law firms vs. in-house legal teams?
- Harvey can fund only one major integration track next: deeper iManage, broader SharePoint, or cross-platform capabilities. Which?
- Harvey is pushed to ship platform capabilities faster while customers escalate uptime and trust concerns. What do you do?
Metrics:
- What metrics prove Harvey's value to a firm like PwC or Paul Weiss?
- What KPI hierarchy would you use for Vault, from account adoption to workflow outcomes?
- A new integration is enabled by admins, but weekly usage among lawyers is low. How would you diagnose it?
AI and technical:
- How would you measure the accuracy of Harvey's legal research outputs?
- Vault must balance fine-grained permissions, search latency, fresh indexes and AI over sensitive data. How do you make the tradeoffs?
Behavioral and estimation:
- Tell me about a time you built a product for a highly regulated industry.
- Estimate the billable hours Harvey saves a mid-size law firm per year.
How AllthingsPM does this. The Harvey hub groups all 60 questions by type, so you can drill the strategy and design prompts that dominate the mix. For wider reps, the full question bank and the mock interview screen let you switch between typing and speaking in one session.
How should you answer Harvey trust and accuracy questions?
This is the round that separates strong candidates. A lawyer signs their name to the work, so "the model is usually right" is not an answer. A frame that works:
- Define the failure precisely. A wrong citation, a real case cited for the wrong point, a missed clause in a long contract and a leaked document from another matter are four different failures with four different fixes.
- Ground every claim. Answers should point to the exact source passage, and the product should say when it could not find support rather than guess.
- Build a golden set with lawyers. Measure accuracy on real tasks graded by practitioners, split by practice area, and track it on every model change.
- Design for review. Make checking fast: side-by-side sources, highlighted spans, and a clear path to escalate.
- Respect the walls. Retrieval must honour matter-level permissions before it ever reaches the model.
Harvey itself has leaned into measurement: its funding announcement names Harvey LAB, a Legal Agent Benchmark. Mentioning how you would use a benchmark like that, and where it falls short of a firm's own tasks, shows you understand evals as a product tool.
How AllthingsPM does this. The course evals chapter teaches how to define good and make the number defensible, and attributing every failure to a layer gives you the model, context, harness or surface language interviewers like. Read our AI evals for product managers guide, then rehearse in a JD mock that pushes back with follow-ups.
How should you answer Harvey strategy and adoption questions?
Harvey strategy questions usually hide a tension between a flagship customer's ask and the platform. A structure that works:
- Name the stakeholders. Partners, associates, legal ops, the CIO and security each want something different. Say whose outcome you optimize first.
- Find the workflow, not the feature. Pick one recurring, high-value task such as diligence review or contract extraction, and map it end to end.
- Scope a narrow pilot. Set success criteria before launch and separate usage from outcome.
- Decide custom versus core. Productize patterns you see across several firms; keep one-offs configurable.
- Pick metrics a managing partner believes. Hours saved, turnaround time, quality as judged by reviewers, weekly active lawyers and expansion to new practice groups.
How AllthingsPM does this. The course chapter on enterprise brownfield deployment covers procurement and the security review, and proving it paid off covers outcomes and seat, usage and outcome pricing. Our guide to the forward deployed product manager role explains the New Verticals and Innovation PM model in depth.
What is a good two week Harvey prep plan?

| 3 to 4 | Learn citations, retrieval and document extraction | Citations lesson and document extraction |

How AllthingsPM does this. Every step maps to a page on one account: JD, resume check, course lesson, question and mock. Use Resume Job Match to see which other open AI PM roles fit the same resume.
Why AllthingsPM is the better choice for Harvey interview prep
Most Harvey interview pages online are written for engineers, and the PM specific ones list generic questions. None of them interview you. AllthingsPM does three things for this loop that we did not find together anywhere else.
First, it has the roles. We track 7 live Harvey job descriptions, from Vault in New York to Infrastructure in San Francisco, and each has a scored mock built from it, typed or spoken, with follow-ups. A Vault PM defending a retrieval architecture and an Innovation PM running a firm-wide rollout face very different interviews, and a generic mock cannot tell them apart.
Second, it has the questions. 60 Harvey questions, each with its own answer guide, sit inside a bank of 4,122 questions from 260 companies, so you can drill the strategy, design and trust prompts Harvey cares about.
Third, it teaches the domain. The AI PM course, built from 604 real PM job postings, covers citations, permission-aware retrieval, document extraction, evals and enterprise deployment, the topics the Harvey postings name.
Guides such as techinterview.org and Scoutify collect useful process notes, and this guide cites them; for daily, role-specific practice on the exact Harvey JD, plus the course and question bank in one account, use AllthingsPM. It starts free, and Pro is $20 a month or $120 a year.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best way to prepare for a Harvey product manager interview?
The best way is AllthingsPM: run a scored mock built from your exact Harvey job description, drill the 60 Harvey questions in the Harvey hub, and study the course lessons on citations, retrieval, evals and enterprise deployment. Add a practice answer on hallucinated case law and deliver it aloud.
How many rounds are in the Harvey PM interview?
Harvey does not publish a PM loop. Public guides describe a recruiter screen, a hiring manager screen of about 45 minutes, role-specific rounds and a final panel, with a founder conversation reported for senior and above roles. Confirm the exact rounds with your recruiter.
Do you need a law degree to be a PM at Harvey?
Not for most roles. Harvey's COO writes that legal experience is not required but curiosity about customers is, and most PM postings list legal or professional services experience as a nice to have. The Innovation PM role is the exception: it asks for experience at a top law firm or in-house legal team.
How much do Harvey product managers earn?
Harvey's US postings list base ranges from $177,700 to $266,500 for Senior/Staff PM, Vault, and $213,600 to $300,000 or $215,000 to $300,000 for Staff PM roles. The Innovation PM role lists $178,500 to $241,500. We checked them on 28 September 2026.
Is Harvey remote?
Mostly not. Harvey's COO says most employees come into a global office 3 or more days a week, remote roles are marked on the careers site, and the Staff PM posting names a 3 day in-person model in San Francisco.
