If you want an AI product manager job in 2026, the odds say San Francisco. Of the 116 live PM job descriptions at 18 AI companies in the AllthingsPM jobs catalog, 78 (67%) list the San Francisco Bay Area, 33 (28%) list New York, 9 (8%) list London and only 2 (2%) are open to remote candidates. At the five model labs in our wider corpus (Anthropic, OpenAI, Mistral, Cohere and Thinking Machines), the Bay Area share rises to 80%.

This is a data study. Below is the method, the numbers by city, what they mean for your search, and the limits of the data.
Where are AI product manager jobs located in 2026?
We tallied every location string in two datasets that AllthingsPM maintains:
- The live jobs catalog: 116 PM job descriptions at 18 AI companies, the same postings that power /jobs and the JD mock interview.
- The PM job corpus: 389 PM postings from 86 companies, read in full from their public careers boards on 22 September 2026. This is the corpus the AI PM course is built from.

Two things stand out. First, the Bay Area is not just the biggest hub; it is bigger than every other location combined. Second, remote AI PM work at these companies is close to nonexistent. Both Anthropic postings in the catalog that say "Remote-Friendly" also say "Travel-Required".

Do the big AI labs hire PMs outside San Francisco?
Some do, but less than their office maps suggest. In the 389-posting corpus, we split out the 40 PM postings at five companies that train their own frontier models.

The pattern is clear. Model labs are more concentrated in San Francisco than the PM market as a whole (80% against 47%) and far less remote friendly (5% against 17%).
Anthropic is the most geographically flexible of the five. Many of its PM postings list San Francisco and New York City together, and several add Seattle. OpenAI's 12 PM postings in our read all said San Francisco.
That is striking, because both companies have offices well beyond the Bay Area. Anthropic said in November 2025 that it has offices in San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Washington DC, London, Dublin and Zurich, and was adding Paris and Munich [1]. OpenAI announced in October 2024 that it was adding New York, Seattle, Paris, Brussels and Singapore to its San Francisco, London, Dublin and Tokyo offices [2]. Those offices have not yet translated into PM postings: in our data, the product management function stays close to headquarters.

Is New York a real option for AI PM jobs?
Yes. New York is a strong second, not a token one. It appears in 28% of the live catalog and 23% of the full corpus, and at the model labs it is listed on 35% of PM postings, almost all of them Anthropic roles that let you pick San Francisco or New York.
Outside research points the same way. CBRE's 2025 Scoring Tech Talent report counted 76,079 AI tech workers in the San Francisco Bay Area and 47,245 in the New York metro, the two largest pools in that report [3]. New York has a deep base of enterprise buyers in finance, law and media, which is why AI application companies selling to them hire PMs there. In our catalog, Decagon and Harvey both post New York PM roles.
If you live in New York, the practical move is to filter for postings that name both cities. Those roles are genuinely open to you, and the interview loop is the same.

What about London and the rest of Europe?
London is growing fast on paper. In April 2026, OpenAI announced a permanent London office with 544 seats, due in 2027, and three days later Anthropic said it had space for up to 800 people in London, with more than 200 already there [4]. Anthropic also said its EMEA headcount tripled in a year [1].
Our PM postings tell a quieter story for now. In the live catalog, the 9 London roles come from three AI application companies:
- Sierra: 6 roles, including Product Manager, Agent Development and five language-specific versions (Arabic, French, German, Italian, Spanish speaking).
- Scale AI: 2 roles, including a Staff Technical Product Manager.
- Decagon: 1 role, a Senior Agent Product Manager.
None of the 40 model lab PM postings in the corpus listed London. Across all 389 PM postings, London shows up on 23 (6%), from 12 companies.
Continental Europe is smaller again. Paris appears on 11 of 389 postings (3%), with Mistral the only model lab there; Mistral was founded in Paris in 2023 [5]. Amsterdam appears on 10, Dublin and Stockholm on 3 each.
The lesson for European candidates: the London AI PM jobs that exist today are mostly customer-facing, agent-deployment roles. Sierra's London postings are about building and shipping AI agents for enterprise customers in their own language. Are there AI PM jobs in Toronto, Seattle and India?
Toronto is Cohere's home. Cohere is headquartered in Toronto, with offices in Montreal, New York, San Francisco, London, Paris and Seoul [6]. All 3 of its PM postings in our data list Toronto, for example Product Manager, Agent Harness and Modelling. Across the corpus, Canada (Toronto, Vancouver and remote Canada) shows up on 24 postings (6%).
Seattle appears on 38 of 389 postings (10%) across 11 companies. Among the model labs, it is Anthropic: several PM roles let you choose Seattle alongside San Francisco and New York.
India is thin for AI PM roles at US AI companies so far: 5 of 389 postings (1%) list Bangalore or another Indian city. That may change. Anthropic said in October 2025 that it would open an office in Bengaluru in early 2026, its second in Asia Pacific after Tokyo [7]. How remote are AI PM jobs, really?
Not very. Across all 389 PM postings, 67 (17%) mention remote work in some form, often limited to one country ("Remote, United States", "Remote, Canada"). In the live AI catalog it is 2 of 116. At the model labs it is 2 of 40, both Anthropic roles marked "Remote-Friendly (Travel-Required)".
Why so few? Lab PMs work closely with research and engineering teams, and the postings we read are overwhelmingly tied to a named office. If remote work is a hard requirement, AI infrastructure and data tooling companies in our corpus are a better bet than the labs.

What do AI PM jobs pay by city?
59 of the 116 live postings include a salary range, from 9 companies. Taking the midpoint of each of the 58 ranges we could parse, the median is $257,500, and midpoints run from $185,000 to $422,500.
Postings that name New York have a higher median midpoint ($277,500 across 31) than postings that name only the Bay Area ($227,500 across 25). Do not read that as "New York pays more". Most of the New York postings are Anthropic roles listed for both cities, with ranges of $305,000 to $385,000 or $385,000 to $460,000, and those high ranges pull the New York figure up. The honest conclusion is narrower: labs that let you pick a city tend to post one range for both.

What should your job search strategy be?
The data suggests a simple plan.
- If you can move to or already live in the Bay Area, target the labs. That is where 80% of their PM postings sit.
- If you are in New York, filter for dual-city roles. Anthropic lists many PM roles for San Francisco or New York City.
- If you are in London, target AI application companies. Sierra, Scale AI and Decagon post London PM roles; the labs' London growth has not shown up in PM postings yet.
- If you need remote, widen beyond the labs. Remote is 17% of the whole PM market but 5% of lab postings.

Method and limitations
What we counted. For each posting we read the location field exactly as the company published it and mapped it to a city or region. San Francisco Bay Area includes San Francisco, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Mateo and Sunnyvale. Seattle area includes Bellevue. "Remote eligible" means the location field mentions remote.
Multi-city postings. 84 of the 389 corpus postings list more than one city. They count once in each city, so shares add up to more than 100%.
What this is not. It is a snapshot of PM postings, not of headcount. A single posting can hire several people, and companies differ in how many roles they post publicly. The model lab sample is 40 postings, which is small; one company (Anthropic, 19 postings) shapes it heavily. Google DeepMind and Meta are not in the corpus. Five postings said only "United States" and a few said "N/A" or a region like "Europe", so they are not counted in any city.
Dates. The corpus was read on 22 September 2026. The live catalog is the September 2026 state of the /jobs pages; postings open and close weekly.
