What this question tests

Breadth and rigor of a PM's user-research toolkit, and knowing when to use each method.

How to approach it

  1. State the range of methods: qualitative interviews and usability testing, and quantitative surveys, in-product analytics, and support ticket themes.
  2. Note when to use each: interviews and usability testing for early discovery and 'why,' analytics and surveys for validating scale and 'how many.'
  3. Give a specific, realistic example: running 5 to 8 moderated interviews before a redesign, paired with an NPS or CSAT survey post-launch.
  4. Mention passive signal sources: support tickets, app store reviews, and community forums as an underused but rich feedback channel.
  5. Note the importance of closing the loop, feeding findings back to the team and, where possible, to the users who gave feedback.
  6. Note a guardrail: avoid over-indexing on the loudest, most vocal users and triangulate across methods.
