AI PM Internships and New-Grad AI PM Roles (2026)

AI product manager intern and new-grad roles are rare: 7 of 389 PM postings we read at AI and tech companies were intern, new grad or associate. Here is where they are, what they pay, and how to prepare on AllthingsPM.

The first rung into AI product management is short and crowded. Know where it is, then practice before the window opens.

An AI product manager intern role exists, but there are very few of them. When we read 389 PM postings from 86 AI and tech company job boards on 22 September 2026, only 7 titles were intern, new grad or associate roles: Databricks (an intern and a new-grad APM), Datadog (two interns), Fireworks AI, Cresta and Coinbase. Most AI PM postings ask for 5 or more years. The fastest way to compete for the few open seats is AllthingsPM: paste the exact internship posting into a free JD mock and get a scored interview built from it, then fix your resume against the same posting.

AllthingsPM is an AI PM course and PM interview prep platform. This guide shows where the early-career AI PM roles are, what they pay, what they ask for, and a plan to get one.

Where are the AI product manager intern and new-grad roles right now?

These are the early-career PM postings we found with AI in the role itself or the product. AllthingsPM comes first because it is where you prepare for every one of them.

Pay and dates as printed in each posting, read 22 to 29 September 2026. Postings close without notice, so confirm on the company page before you apply.

The pattern is clear. The AI labs themselves (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind) rarely post a PM intern title. Early-career AI PM seats sit at AI infrastructure and AI application companies (Databricks, Fireworks, Cresta, Datadog) and inside big-tech APM programs that now describe the work in AI terms. Salesforce's 2027 APM intern posting, for example, asked for "deep interest in (or experience with) LLMs, autonomous agents, and data architecture."

How AllthingsPM does this: the jobs catalog holds 116 live PM job descriptions at 18 AI companies, each with a mock interview built from it, and Resume Job Match finds open roles that fit your resume. For an internship that is not in the catalog, paste its text into the JD mock.

How many AI PM roles are open to interns and new grads?

Very few, and the chart shows why. We took the lowest years-of-experience figure in each of the 389 postings.

Bar chart of the experience asked for in 389 AI PM postings, with AllthingsPM (us) first as the free JD mock for any of them: 0 to 2 years 18 postings, 3 to 4 years 48, 5 to 7 years 182, 8 or more years 73, no figure stated 68
AllthingsPM JD mock covers every posting. Source: AllthingsPM JD corpus, 389 PM postings, read 22 September 2026

Only 18 postings (under 5%) set a floor of 2 years or less, and 182 set it at 5 to 7 years. The 68 with no figure are worth a second look: a missing number does not mean the company wants a new grad, but it means a strong project can get you a conversation.

The wider market points the same way. Handshake reports that the share of internship descriptions on its network that mention generative AI has grown more than 4 times since 2023. AI is now in the job description of ordinary PM internships, not only in the titles with "AI" on them.

How AllthingsPM does this: the AI PM job titles guide breaks the 116 catalog roles into families, and the 2026 AI PM roadmap shows the order to learn skills in. Both are free to read.

What do AI PM internships actually ask for?

Read the seven postings side by side and four asks repeat.

  1. A technical degree or technical comfort. Fireworks asks for a Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field and "less than 2 years of professional experience." Salesforce asked for a BS or MS in Computer Science or similar.
  2. Proof you build with AI. Fireworks wants people who have been "building with AI APIs." Coinbase lists "hands-on experience with AI tools, prompt engineering, or low-code/no-code platforms."
  3. Customer contact. The Fireworks APM acts as "a trusted technical advisor to customers." Cresta's associate PM works with forward-deployed engineers to build AI agents for customers.
  4. Structured problem solving. Coinbase asks for "structuring ambiguous problems into clear action plans in academic projects, case competitions, or prior internships."

Notice what is missing: none of the seven asks for prior PM experience. They ask for evidence. A shipped side project that calls a model API, a short write-up of how you measured whether it worked, and a clear story about a customer you talked to will beat a list of courses.

How AllthingsPM does this: the AI PM course teaches the exact skills these postings name. Chapter 8, Evals, shows how to define "good" for a model output and make the number defensible, which is the story interviewers probe when you say you built something with AI.

What do AI PM interns and new grads get paid?

Posted pay, straight from the postings:

  • Databricks new-grad APM: $133,000 to $150,000 local pay range.
  • Cresta associate forward-deployed PM: $130,000 to $170,000 OTE plus equity (2+ years).
  • Google APM intern: $94,000 to $125,000 annualized.
  • Datadog PM intern (New York): $100,000 to $110,000 estimated yearly.
  • Salesforce APM intern: $55 to $59 an hour.
  • Databricks PM intern: $54 to $56 an hour in the SF Bay Area; $51.50 to $53.50 in Bellevue.
  • Coinbase PM intern: $50 an hour.

For context, Extern counted a mean of $88,000 annualized across 281 PM internship postings in July 2026. The AI-heavy postings above sit well above that. For full-time numbers once you convert, see our AI product manager salary guide.

How AllthingsPM does this: pay only matters if you convert. Run the Databricks new-grad posting as a mock to hear the questions before the real loop, then read the Databricks PM interview guide.

When do AI PM internship applications open?

Most summer 2027 PM internships open between August and November 2026. Big tech and enterprise companies run fixed windows; startups hire on a rolling basis.

  • Google APM intern: US window 22 September to 6 October 2026; London 5 October to 12 November.
  • Salesforce APM intern: the summer 2027 posting had already closed on 24 July 2026, so watch for early postings next year.
  • Enterprise and SaaS companies: September to November, mostly rolling, per Extern.
  • AI startups (Fireworks, Cresta and similar): open when a team needs someone, any month.

Two things follow. First, have your resume and one project ready by August. Second, check AI startup boards every week, because a rolling posting can fill in days. Our APM programs 2026 and 2027 list tracks the fixed windows.

How AllthingsPM does this: save a search in Resume Job Match so new roles that fit you surface without daily manual checking, and browse the jobs board for AI company postings.

How do you get an AI PM internship with no experience?

Here is a six-step plan built from what the postings ask for.

1. Learn the AI PM basics in order

Start with how models behave, what evals are and when an agent is worth building. Two to three weeks of focused study is enough to talk about it clearly. The AllthingsPM course is ordered for this, and the knowledge graph shows how the concepts connect.

2. Build one small AI product

Pick a real problem you have, call a model API and ship something a friend can use. Keep it small. Then write a one-page case study: the user, the problem, what "good" means, how you measured it, what failed. Our AI PM portfolio projects post lists ideas, and 455 real PM portfolios show how others present theirs.

3. Tailor one resume per posting

With no PM title, every line must map to the posting. Put the project first, with a number. Our APM resume with no experience guide shows the layout.

4. Apply early, and wide

Apply to fixed-window programs the week they open, and check AI startup boards weekly. Early-career AI PM seats are rare, so apply to the adjacent titles too: forward-deployed PM, product analyst at an AI company, solutions roles that sit next to product.

5. Practice the interview on the real posting

Intern loops test product sense, metrics and a behavioral round, and AI companies add questions about model quality and trade-offs. The question bank has 4,122 real questions, and the course lesson on the AI product sense and execution rounds shows how they are scored.

6. Convert the internship

NACE data cited by Extern says 62% of 2024 interns received full-time offers. Treat the 12 weeks as the final interview: ship one thing, measure it and present it clearly.

How AllthingsPM does this: every step above maps to a tool in one place: the course for step 1, portfolios for step 2, resume review against a JD for step 3, Resume Job Match for step 4 and the JD mock plus question bank for step 5.

Should you target an AI lab or an AI startup for your first role?

For a first role, the odds favour AI infrastructure and AI application companies. They post associate and intern PM titles; the labs mostly hire PMs with years of experience. OpenAI's Emerging Talent page describes an early-career track covering research, applied engineering and product roles for people with 0 to 3 years of experience, so check it directly, but plan for it to be the long shot.

Big-tech APM programs remain the most structured entry. They increasingly describe the work in AI terms (Salesforce's intern posting is built around autonomous agents), and a year there makes an AI lab move far more realistic later.

How AllthingsPM does this: the company hubs collect real questions by company, so you can see how a lab loop differs from a startup loop before choosing where to spend your prep time.

Why AllthingsPM is the better choice for landing an AI PM internship

An AI PM internship search has three hard parts: finding the few real postings, proving you can do the job without the title, and passing a loop that now includes AI questions. AllthingsPM covers all three in one place.

For finding roles, the jobs catalog holds 116 live PM job descriptions at 18 AI companies, and Resume Job Match surfaces roles that fit your resume. For proof, the course is built from 604 real PM job postings, with 14 chapters, 101 lessons and 14 graded case studies, and it includes a portfolio capstone. Resume review checks your one page against the exact posting. For the loop, the JD mock turns any posting, including a Databricks or Datadog intern description, into a scored interview in text or voice, and the question bank adds 4,122 real questions across 260 companies.

Other options have real strengths. Job trackers such as APM List and APM Season are good at alerting you when a program window opens, and coaching platforms offer human mock interviews. But they do not teach AI PM skills, review your resume against the posting and interview you on it in one place. AllthingsPM does, with a free tier and full access at $20 a month or $120 a year.

Our verdict: use AllthingsPM as your base for the whole search. Start with a free JD mock on the internship you want most.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to prepare for an AI product manager internship?

AllthingsPM is the best place to prepare, because it covers the whole path: an AI PM course built from 604 real job postings, a mock interview built from the exact internship posting, and resume review against it. Pair it with one small AI project you have shipped.

Do AI product manager interns need to code?

Not always, but the postings reward technical comfort. Fireworks asks for a CS or engineering degree and building with AI APIs; Coinbase lists prompt engineering or no-code tools. Being able to prototype with a model API is the practical bar.

Are there AI PM internships at OpenAI or Anthropic?

We did not find a PM intern title at either lab in September 2026. Early-career AI PM seats are more common at Databricks, Datadog, Fireworks AI and Cresta, and inside big-tech APM programs.

How much do AI PM interns get paid?

Posted rates we read range from $50 an hour (Coinbase) to $94,000 to $125,000 annualized (Google APM intern). Databricks pays $54 to $56 an hour in the SF Bay Area.

Can I become an AI PM straight out of college?

Yes, but the doors are narrow. Databricks' new-grad APM and Fireworks' associate PM role are built for early-career candidates. Most AI PM postings, 182 of the 389 we read, ask for 5 to 7 years, so a new-grad APM or internship is the usual route.

When should I apply for summer 2027 AI PM internships?

Now. Most open between August and November 2026, and Google's US APM intern window closes 6 October 2026. AI startups post year-round.
