Entry-Level AI PM Jobs: Where They Are and How to Get One

Entry-level AI PM jobs are rare: 7 of 389 PM titles we tracked at AI and tech companies were associate, new grad or intern roles. Here is where they are, what they ask for, and how AllthingsPM helps you practice for them from day one.

Entry-level AI PM roles exist, but there are very few of them. Know exactly where to look.

Entry-level AI product manager jobs are real but scarce. Of 389 PM job titles we collected from 86 tech and AI companies in September 2026, only 7 were associate, new grad or intern roles, at Databricks, Fireworks AI, Cresta, Datadog and Coinbase. The fastest way in is to target those few roles plus the big APM programs, and to walk in already fluent in AI product work. AllthingsPM helps with exactly that: its jobs catalog lists 116 live AI PM roles at 18 AI companies, and every one has a scored mock interview built from its job description that you can practice with zero years of experience.

AllthingsPM is an AI PM course and PM interview prep platform. This guide shows where entry-level AI PM jobs actually are, what they ask for, and a step-by-step plan to land one.

Where are the entry-level AI PM jobs right now?

Here are the early-career PM roles we found in our job description corpus (read 22 September 2026), plus the best-known APM programs. AllthingsPM comes first because it is where you prepare for all of them.

AllthingsPM (us) band first: zero years needed to practice any of 116 live AI PM roles. Then a bar chart of 389 PM job titles: 250 senior or above, 132 plain Product Manager, 7 associate, new grad or intern

Read the chart plainly: for every associate or intern PM title, there are about 35 senior-or-above titles. That does not mean you cannot get in. It means you should stop scrolling generic boards and aim at the small set of roles built for you.

Why are entry-level AI PM jobs so hard to find?

AI product management is a young function, and companies mostly fill it with people who have already shipped products. Axial Search analysed 12,400 US AI product postings from January 2026 onward and found that 47% were manager-level and only 2% were junior. Our own corpus agrees: 250 of 389 PM titles carried Senior, Staff, Lead, Principal, Director or Head.

Experience asks tell the same story. We scanned each posting for a stated "years of experience" figure. Of the 250 postings that stated one, only 9 asked for 2 years or fewer, and several of those were still mid-level roles. The rest asked for 3 to 4, 5 to 7 or 8 or more years.

There is a second reason. Many AI companies are small and move fast, so they hire PMs who can be trusted with a model launch on week two. The associate roles that do exist sit at larger, better-funded companies like Databricks, or in customer-facing tracks like Cresta's forward deployed PM role, where learning happens next to the customer.

How AllthingsPM does this: the jobs catalog shows every live role at 18 AI companies with its full job description, so you can see what "senior" actually means in each one. Open any role and run the mock built from it; you will learn the gap between you and the posting in 30 minutes instead of guessing.

What do entry-level AI PM jobs ask for?

The seven early-career postings share a pattern. They want technical grounding, proof that you use AI tools, and signs that you can own a problem.

  • A technical degree or equivalent. Databricks, Fireworks and Datadog all name computer science, engineering or a related field. Google's APM program also asks for a technical background.
  • Hands-on AI use. The Databricks internship asks that you have used AI tools for both personal productivity and development projects. That is a low bar you can clear this month.
  • Some real experience, even if short. Fireworks and Cresta ask for about 2 years. Internships, research, a startup or a serious side project count toward "relevant experience" in how you describe it.
  • Customer and data comfort. Forward deployed roles put you in front of enterprise customers; data companies expect you to read a dashboard and write SQL.

None of these require a PM title. They require evidence. Our guide to writing an APM resume with no experience shows how to turn projects into that evidence.

How AllthingsPM does this: paste any of these postings into resume review against a JD and you get a line-by-line read of where your resume matches and where it does not. The free foundations lesson on the AI PM role explains what hiring managers mean by "taste" and "verification", the two words that show up again and again.

Which companies and programs hire entry-level AI PMs?

Think of the market in four buckets.

1. APM and rotational programs. Google's APM program is a two-year rotational program for recent graduates and early-career professionals; for the 2026 start, applications opened 30 September 2025 and closed 28 October 2025, according to Leland. Meta's RPM program runs 18 months across three product teams and targets people with under a year of PM experience, including career changers, per APM List. Both are open to all product areas, and both now put AI work in front of new PMs. See our full list of APM programs for 2026 and 2027.

2. New grad roles at AI infrastructure and data companies. Databricks is the clearest example: its APM New Grad posting names teams including AI Platform, Genie and Machine Learning, and pays $133,000 to $150,000 base. Fireworks AI's APM role is explicitly "designed for early-career candidates".

3. Forward deployed associate roles. Cresta's Associate Forward Deployed PM is remote in the US and pays $130,000 to $170,000 plus equity. These roles blend PM work with implementation at customer sites, and they are a real side door into AI product. Read what a forward deployed product manager does before you apply.

4. Internships. Databricks, Datadog and Coinbase all had PM internships open. Interns who convert are the most common path to a new grad PM offer, so treat an internship as a job interview that lasts ten weeks.

How AllthingsPM does this: company hubs like Databricks PM interview questions collect the real questions each company asks, and the Databricks PM interview guide walks through the loop. The job board lets you filter roles fast.

How do you get an entry-level AI PM job? A 6-step plan

This is the plan we would follow with zero PM experience and 8 to 12 weeks.

Step 1: Pick a lane in AI, not just "AI PM"

AI PM roles split into platform and infrastructure (models, APIs, evals), applied AI products (agents, copilots) and customer-facing roles (forward deployed). Choose one. It decides your project, your resume story and your target list. Our breakdown of AI PM job titles helps you choose.

Step 2: Learn the AI PM vocabulary that interviewers test

Entry-level candidates lose points on words like evals, latency budgets, hallucination handling and cost per task. Spend two weeks on the fundamentals. The evals chapter of the AllthingsPM course teaches how to define "good" for a model feature and defend the number, which is the single most common AI PM interview theme we see.

Step 3: Build one AI product artifact

Build something small with a model API: a support triage bot, a study helper, an internal tool. Write a one-page PRD, define two eval metrics, ship it to five users and write down what broke. This is the "hands-on AI use" line in the Databricks posting, made concrete. For ideas, see AI PM projects to build for your portfolio, and study how others present work in the PM portfolios gallery of 455 real portfolios.

Step 4: Tailor your resume to each posting

Generic resumes fail because entry-level screens are keyword-heavy and volume is high. Rewrite your top three bullets for every role using the posting's own words. Resume Job Match finds roles that fit your resume, and resume review against a JD tells you what is missing.

Step 5: Apply in the right windows

APM programs cluster in the fall: Google's last window ran from late September to late October, and Meta's RPM typically opens in late summer or early fall. New grad roles like Databricks' post in summer. Internships for next summer open now. Put the dates in a calendar and apply in week one of each window.

Step 6: Get interview reps before the interview

Entry-level loops test product sense, execution, analytics and behavioral stories, plus AI-specific judgment. Do at least 15 timed mocks before your first real loop. Start with the question bank and run realistic practice in mock interviews.

How AllthingsPM does this: every step above maps to a feature. The course covers steps 2 and 3, resume tools cover step 4, the jobs catalog covers step 5 and JD mocks cover step 6, all in one account.

What do entry-level AI PM interviews look like?

Expect the classic PM rounds with an AI twist. Product sense asks you to design a product, often one with a model inside it. Execution asks how you would measure a launch and handle a metric drop. AI-specific rounds ask how you would evaluate a model feature or trade off quality, cost and latency.

A typical AI question from our bank: "Offline evals show strong gains, but internal dogfooders say the model feels worse. What do you do?" New PMs who can reason through that calmly stand out, because it tests judgment, not years.

Behavioral rounds matter more at entry level than people think. You will not have launch stories, so prepare stories from projects, internships and school where you set a goal, made a trade-off and learned from a failure.

How AllthingsPM does this: the JD mock asks questions drawn from the exact posting and follows up like a real interviewer, in text or voice, then scores your answer. The course lesson on the AI product sense and execution rounds shows what a strong 40-minute answer sounds like.

Should you take a non-PM job first?

Often, yes. Many AI PMs start as analysts, engineers, solutions engineers, designers or in customer success, then move into PM once they have shipped something. With only about 2% of AI product postings at junior level, an adjacent role at an AI company can be a faster route than waiting for an APM slot.

If you go this way, act like a PM in the role you have. Write specs for your team, own a metric, and sit in on customer calls. Then apply internally, where the bar is often "we trust you" rather than "five years of PM".

Our longer guide on how to become an AI PM with no experience covers the adjacent-role path in detail, and where to find AI PM jobs lists the boards worth watching.

How AllthingsPM does this: keep one foot in the PM track while you work the adjacent role. Twenty minutes a day on the course and one JD mock a week keeps your interview skills sharp for the moment an internal PM role opens.

Why AllthingsPM is the better choice for landing an entry-level AI PM job

Breaking into AI PM at entry level is a numbers and proof problem. There are few roles, and each one gets many applicants. You win by applying to the right roles at the right time and by showing up to the interview already fluent. AllthingsPM is built for exactly that.

It combines four things you would otherwise stitch together from separate tools: a jobs catalog of 116 live AI PM roles at 18 AI companies, a mock interview built from each of those job descriptions, an AI PM course built from 604 real postings, and a bank of 4,122 real questions from 260 companies. Add resume review against a JD and Resume Job Match, and your whole job search runs in one place.

Other options have genuine strengths. Job boards like Indeed and ZipRecruiter show more listings, and APM List tracks program deadlines well. Paid coaches can give human feedback. But a job board will not prepare you for the interview, and a coach session often costs more than a year of AllthingsPM Pro at $120. For daily preparation that is tied to real AI PM roles, AllthingsPM is the stronger choice.

The verdict: use a deadline tracker for dates, and use AllthingsPM for everything that turns an application into an offer. Browse the live AI PM roles and run your first free mock.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to find entry-level AI PM jobs?

Start with AllthingsPM's jobs catalog, which lists 116 live AI PM roles at 18 AI companies with a mock for each. Then track APM program windows (Google, Meta) and check the careers pages of AI data and infrastructure companies like Databricks and Fireworks AI, which post associate roles directly.

Are there really entry-level AI product manager jobs?

Yes, but few. In our September 2026 sample, 7 of 389 PM titles were associate, new grad or intern roles, and Axial Search found 2% of 12,400 US AI product postings were junior. Aim at those roles precisely instead of applying broadly.

How much do entry-level AI PMs earn?

It varies widely by company and city. Databricks lists $133,000 to $150,000 base for its new grad APM role, and Cresta lists $130,000 to $170,000 plus equity for its associate forward deployed PM role. Always check the pay range on the live posting.

Do I need a computer science degree for an entry-level AI PM job?

Many postings ask for one: Databricks, Fireworks AI and Datadog name CS or a related engineering field. Meta's RPM program, per APM List, accepts career changers from non-technical backgrounds. A strong AI project can help close the gap where the degree is "or related".

When do APM programs open?

Most open in the fall. Google's APM window for the 2026 start ran from 30 September to 28 October 2025, and Meta's RPM usually opens in late summer or early fall. Databricks posted its 2027 new grad APM role ahead of that season.

How should I prepare for an entry-level AI PM interview?

Learn AI PM fundamentals like evals and cost trade-offs, then do at least 15 timed mocks. AllthingsPM gives you one free JD mock a day built from a real posting, plus 4,122 real questions with answer guides.
