Midjourney Product Manager Interview (2026): Process, Questions, and Prep

Midjourney does not publish its PM loop, so prepare from the live Product Manager posting: execution, specs, standups, user research and prototyping with Claude Code, paid $185,000 to $225,000. Rehearse with a mock built from that JD and 4 Midjourney questions on AllthingsPM.

A product manager at a whiteboard lays out a long row of small paper tiles, each tile one word fragment, while a narrow window frame on the wall shows only part of the row
Midjourney hires PMs to bring structure to creative work that has no playbook.

The Midjourney product manager interview is not documented anywhere public, so the best guide is the job itself. Midjourney's live Product Manager posting (San Francisco Bay Area, hybrid, $185,000 to $225,000) describes a hands-on execution role: specs, backlogs, standups, launches, user interviews and prototyping "using tools like Claude Code." The fastest way to prepare is to rehearse that exact posting: AllthingsPM has a scored mock built from the live Midjourney PM job description, plus 4 Midjourney questions, each with its own page and answer guide.

AllthingsPM is an AI PM course and PM interview prep platform, and it is not affiliated with Midjourney. Below, we separate what Midjourney publishes, what third parties report, and what comes from our own question bank.

What is the Midjourney PM interview process?

Midjourney has not published a PM interview loop, and we found no public PM candidate report on the usual sites. Glassdoor has a Midjourney company page, but no PM interview write-ups surfaced in our search. The one third-party guide we found, from TechPrep, covers software engineers, not PMs.

That engineering guide is still useful as a signal of company style. It describes four phases: entry through networks or Midjourney's own community, a deep dive on past work, a practical session on a real team problem that is "less of a contrived coding exercise and more of a collaborative technical conversation," and a final conversation with leadership about mission alignment. Treat it as a hint, not a script.

Ask your recruiter for the exact rounds before you start. For a company this small, the loop can change from one hire to the next.

How AllthingsPM does this. Because the public round list is thin, our JD mock interview builds the interview from the exact Midjourney Product Manager posting, asks follow-ups and scores your answers, typed or spoken. If you are applying elsewhere too, paste any job description into the JD mock and get a mock for that role in the same way. The free tier includes one JD mock a day.

What does Midjourney do, and why does it shape the interview?

Midjourney calls itself "an independent research lab exploring new mediums of thought and expanding the imaginative powers of the human species." Its job posting describes "a small, self-funded team focused on design, human infrastructure, and AI."

David Holz founded it after Leap Motion. Contrary Research dates a private demo to September 2021 and the public launch, as a Discord bot, to February 2022. The website followed in August 2024. Version 7 of the image model arrived in April 2025, and TechCrunch reported the first video model, V1, on June 18, 2025, an image-to-video model that makes five-second clips you can extend to 21 seconds.

The company has never raised outside money. When Meta announced a licensing deal for Midjourney's "aesthetic technology" on August 22, 2025, TechCrunch reported Holz saying his company "remains independent with no investors." Contrary cites revenue estimates of $200 million in 2023 (from The Information) and $500 million in annual run rate by May 2025, with about 40 employees at that point. These are outside estimates, not company figures.

Three things follow for the interview:

  1. The products have no template. The posting says "most of the products we build don't have obvious precedents." Expect questions where you define the problem yourself.
  2. The team is tiny. A PM here does not manage a program office. You write the spec, run the standup and talk to users.
  3. Taste matters. Midjourney sells aesthetics, and even Meta licensed that. You need a view on what makes an output good, and how you would know.

There is also legal context worth knowing. TechCrunch notes that Disney and Universal sued Midjourney for copyright infringement a week before the video launch. You do not need to take a position, but a thoughtful answer on consent and rights in generative media shows maturity.

How AllthingsPM does this. The image and video generation lesson in the AllthingsPM course covers how generative media products work and the consent questions a new modality creates. It gives you vocabulary to talk about quality, cost and rights without bluffing.

What does the Midjourney PM job description ask for?

The live posting, published on July 24, 2026 and still open when we checked on September 29, 2026, lists seven duties:

  • Own the execution of major product initiatives.
  • Partner closely with design and engineering from early exploration through launch.
  • Write product requirements, manage backlogs, and keep projects moving.
  • Facilitate planning, standups, reviews, and comms between teams.
  • Help teams make informed decisions through UXR, research, and "using Midjourney deeply yourself."
  • Go deep on important product questions: user research, experiments or a difficult tradeoff.
  • Help teams decide what matters most and "make smart choices about quality, scope, and speed."

The "might be a fit" list is short and pointed: several years building software people love, creating structure "without weighing a team down," being as comfortable with a spec as with a user or a prototype, holding a point of view but caring "more about getting the product right than being right," using Claude Code and Cursor day to day, and "Work > ego."

Bar chart: AllthingsPM (us) builds its Midjourney mock from all 7 duties in the posting; the duties split into 4 execution and process, 2 research and discovery, and 1 prioritization
AllthingsPM analysis of the live Midjourney Product Manager posting, September 2026

Read that chart as a weighting guide. Most of your prep should go to execution stories: how you ran a project, kept a small team moving and shipped. Research and prioritization come next.

The same job board lists 18 open roles as of September 29, 2026, including product design, a design lead and a QA analyst posted the same week as the PM role. That hints at a product team being built out, so expect questions on how you would work with designers from day one.

How AllthingsPM does this. Resume review against a JD scores your resume against the Midjourney posting and shows which duties you have not evidenced yet, such as running standups or doing your own user research. Fix those gaps before you apply.

What questions does Midjourney ask PMs?

We have 4 Midjourney questions on the Midjourney company hub. They come from the Midjourney job description, not from candidate reports, so they show what the role demands rather than a leaked script. Each has its own page and answer guide.

  1. Midjourney often starts with product ideas that have no clear precedent. Take a new creative workflow from vague idea to a launchable MVP. Name the user problem, pick the riskiest assumptions to test first, and draw the line between v1 and what you defer.
  2. You are PM for a major Midjourney initiative with a small design and engineering team that wants to move fast and avoid heavyweight process. Explain where you keep process light and where you add rigor.
  3. Midjourney is testing a new creative tool and early feedback is polarized. Separate user value, UX and model quality, then say what evidence would make you iterate, pivot or stop.
  4. Improve Midjourney's core creation workflow for existing users. Combine your own use, user interviews and prototype reviews to find the biggest friction, then decide what ships first.

Four questions is a small set, and we will not pad it with unrelated ones. For more practice, paste the Midjourney posting into the JD mock and let it generate fresh questions from the duties above.

How AllthingsPM does this. Every question page has an answer guide and a button to practice it as a mock interview. For adjacent practice, the question bank holds 4,122 questions from 260 companies, including creative AI peers you can filter to by company.

How should you answer Midjourney PM questions?

Four habits map directly onto the posting.

Start from your own use of the product. The posting asks you to use Midjourney "deeply yourself." Before the interview, generate images and a few video clips, try the web app, and note three frictions with evidence. Opening an answer with "When I tried X last week" beats any framework.

Show light process, on purpose. The second question is a test of judgment about process. A strong answer names the few artifacts you would keep (a one-page spec, a decision log, a weekly review) and the ones you would skip, and says why. "Structure without weighing a team down" is the rubric.

Separate model quality from UX. Polarized feedback on a generative tool is common. Split the diagnosis: is the output not good enough (a model problem), is the tool hard to steer (a UX problem), or does nobody need it (a value problem)? Say what test isolates each one. The AI UX chapter of the AllthingsPM course covers design for a system that is wrong sometimes, which is the heart of that split.

Prototype, then talk. The posting names Claude Code and Cursor. If you can, bring a small prototype of an idea for Midjourney, or be ready to explain how you built one elsewhere. Mention what you learned from it, not just that it exists.

How AllthingsPM does this. A practice mock interview lets you drill any question type with follow-ups, so you can rehearse the "why this, why now" pushback a small team will give you. The follow-ups are where weak answers show.

How should you prepare for a Midjourney PM interview in two weeks?

A focused two-week plan:

DaysFocusWhat to do on AllthingsPM
1 to 2Use the product hardKeep a friction log; read the generative media lesson
3 to 4Map your stories to the 7 dutiesRun resume review against the JD and fill gaps

How AllthingsPM does this. The whole plan runs in one place: course lessons, company questions, the live JD, the mock and resume review. You do not stitch together five tools to prepare for one role.

What is the Midjourney PM salary and location?

The posting lists compensation of $185,000 to $225,000 plus benefits, full time, San Francisco Bay Area, hybrid. The role title is Product Manager, with no level in the title. The posting does not mention equity, so ask the recruiter directly.

How AllthingsPM does this. The AllthingsPM jobs catalog lists live PM roles at AI companies, each with a mock built from the job description, so you can compare roles and prepare for several at once.

Why AllthingsPM is the better choice for Midjourney PM interview prep

Midjourney PM prep has one unusual problem: there is almost no public information about the loop. Generic prep sites answer that with generic questions. AllthingsPM answers it with the job itself.

On AllthingsPM you get a scored mock interview built from the live Midjourney Product Manager posting, typed or spoken, with follow-ups. You get 4 Midjourney questions with answer guides and their own pages, and a bank of 4,122 questions from 260 companies around them. You get an AI PM course built from 604 real PM job postings, with a lesson on image and video generation and a chapter on AI UX, which is exactly the ground a Midjourney interviewer will walk. And you get resume review against the Midjourney JD before you apply.

Other options have real strengths. Human coaching marketplaces offer coaches with years of interviewing experience, and peer communities offer free practice partners. Neither gives you a mock built from Midjourney's own posting, a course on generative media and a resume check against the same JD in one place for $20 a month, with a free tier to start.

For a role where the job description is the most reliable guide you have, the verdict is simple: practice on the job description. Start a free Midjourney JD mock on AllthingsPM.
